That's right, purchased it this morning, took it out of it's box, tried it out on the dog, focused fine for the most part on the close objects, then i took it around the house this afternoon, in plently of different lighting situations, won't focus, it just can't achive focus. No matter what shooting mode :S
Called the supplier, they're gonna take a look :)

is it not moving at all or is it trying to focus and it goes in and out.
My 50mm 1.8 the AF/MF switch is really touchy. you gotta make sure its all way pushed up good in AF for it to work. Sometimes I will switch and it looks like its in but it needs to go a tad bit further. It wont do anything and still in manual mode unless I give it another nudge

While I don't have the nifty, a friend does and I haven't heard him state he has been having any problems with it.

I've checked the switch, no, it will move in/out once, and then it is obviously out of focus, the little dot comes up in my viewfinder indicating it can't focus (act's the same as if the object is too close) but it isn't, there is enough light, the objects are three or feet away...hmm...

are u far enough away from the object...I think like 15" is minimum focus distance...anything closer it wont

Yeah, my nifty acted up too once. It acted up when I put it in MF and started playing around with it. When I put it back in AF, it wouldn't focus. I just played around with the switch, works fine now.

Good news! Got it all fixed, turns out it was a bad AF motor, welp, time to go shoot :)
