I often see birds doing a wing stretch...Herons, Redpolls Gulls and Ducks...all birds do it and so do Owls. Taken a week ago. Canon 200mm F2.8L and 1.4X tc

Another great owl shot Gary. It is amazing to think you are getting these shots with the 200 mm lens + 1.4 = 280 mm?

Good capture Gary.
I`ve also heard that by stretching they short out the feathers too.

These Owls are sometimes quite approachable, This one is quite tame and this is because they have little experience with humans. This one will soon ( if she has not already) retreat back into the deep north where she may not see another person until next Winter IF she returns. So the 200 and 1.4 for 280 mm has served me well providing I get close and especially if i get close and shoot low ISO ( cropping considerations). As long as the light is good, I will be giving the 200mm a well deserved rest as I just picked up a 400mm F 5.6 yesterday:D Thanks for the comments Dennis!

I was in the process of taking shots when the owl started doing the wing stretch which lated all of 3 -4 secs. Got lucky as i was not expecting this action:D , Thanks for the comment!

Thanks clivingston.......I hope I get to do just that. Went this morning and late afternoon but no sign...hopefully the arrival of warm weather and red wing blackibirds was not a single for the owl's departure. I will keep looking!

Good job capturing her in the act; pretty unique. Fairly good view of that large claw.
