Just finished doing a bit of PP on some shots I did for a workmate. The bride works with me at the bank, and gave her a great deal on this shoot. At the same time, gave me a chance to get practice, extend my portfolio, and just have fun.
Early in the wedding, I gave my brand new 85mm1.8 a good workout...

I like this one, for the tear running down the cheek.

Most impressive shot I've seen this 85mm do. The DOF at full image size is great.. Good to know theres' no backfocusing issues.
The rest here are rather laughable.
I was using the Sigma 120-300 with flash bracket mouted on..(too much of a hassle to take off).
My second shooter, (also known as ikirst and my girlfriend, was using the 85mm at this point. I know she got some fantastic shots. :)

There's about 50 variations of this..
Different angles, facing towards camera, away, sitting, basically everything you ever need, so the bride can choose what she wanted.

Thanks to Kirst for lending a great hand, and taking excellent shots.

Bumps this post up, as other one is double post. Sorry mods.
PS. Just seen a flaw in #2. I edited the shot for my workmate, as her nails are flaked with nail polish. I filled it in for them, but forget to resize that shot, and instead resized the original.

Nice pictures. My favorite is the one with the whole wedding party running and leaping. Very creative.

Some are a bit dark on my monitor (especially the b/w's and in their faces - although some are on the spot) and some look a bit overexposed, but then some that are just perfect. Some really top notch stuff!!

I like this series! I agree with Petra, a couple of the faces look just a little dark, but evenso...it looks like you had a fun time and you have some great images to show them!

Thanks for the comments. The darkness is thanks to the joys of an LCD monitor. Looking 5 degrees off centre it's all dark, and I don't like them. But this is Kirst's computer I quickly did these at. My calibrated CRT at home is much better, and I'll probably laugh myself when I see how bad they look. :o

Well done. So what cant you shoot well ? You have a gift wazza now aim for the moon ikirst will catch you but I doubt you will need to be caught as I dont expect you will fall. Have some faith in yourself. Your photos prove you have the skill.
Put your fears away and go for it.

Most of us would give a arm or a leg to be able to shoot as well as you do.
Can see it now 8 armed wazza :)
To give you an idea of how much I think of your talent I would back you with my hard earned cash, because it would be better than money in the bank as far as an investment and the returns in sales of your prints.

Being an assistant to Warren with this wedding meant I got to see him in action.
He's a complete natural with thinking up ideas for various shots / locations. I just kinda stood back in awe at times ;)
I agree with many of you.. this guy has a big future in wedding photography, well, anything he decides to shoot. He has that eye that can just see stuff that the average person like me, doesnt
The only thing that let him down on this one was a total lack of time and organisation by the wedding party
Both the bride and groom come from incredibly large families (500+ guests at the reception), and trying to get shots of all the aunties, uncles, cousins, 3rd cousins twice removed, Grand Mothers, Great Grand Mothers, Auntie Shirly's best friend's kid brother's babysitter..etc took up a fair chunk of any creative time. He utalized the tiny gap between family photos and the reception with real creative flare and freedom.
The other let down was my trigger happy finger, thus giving him a few more photos to PP than expected :o Sorry :(

As you've said, Tony, I'm not needed to catch him at all :)

Hi Kirst!
Sounded like my wedding;) , though had half the number of people in it. There were 2 photogs in the package so these guys pretty much got everyone's pics. But if I were to redo the whole thing, I'd hire your toy... oops, I mean Warren;) You really need to work on him -- he gives himself so little credit for what he can do...
As for your trigger happy finger, let's just say that you were trying to be helpful...
Btw, have a look at this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=127944). Tim's tip is very interesting and may help Warren sell more pics.
Cheers!

In the case of weddings, I'll share him everywhere ;) I'm going to push to get work for him with everyone I know. He knows he can, and does, do well, he's just a little skeptical at personal trumpet blowing. I don't see a thing wrong with it, when he's as good as he is :)
I know some folks say a tiny fraction of fine tuning can be made, and most likely that's true, but to the average Tom, Dick and his dog, the photos are amazing :D

The pictures are brilliant, and I do love B&W. It is so artistic and not distracting. You captured some intensely beautiful moments as well as silly ones. Thanks for posting and I am taking notes as I have a wedding coming up and I haven't done one since December due to my schedule. Great job!

Wazza, with a wedding that big you could sell a ton of prints if you have them online quickly enough. Gimme a call about how do it it, you can do it in an evening.

Such fine words! I won't clutter the forum up with thank yous and how I feel.. But I'll tell you later. :p
So very true however about the family pics.
Like group shots of everyone... EVERY SINGLE GUEST! With the bridge and groom.
The let down of this wedding, was critisism of things not shot. Ie, more group photos of entering the reception etc. We had discussed before, just pretend I'm not there. I'll do creative fun candid shots, but the shots on the hill, we only had 15min in total, and 2min on the wharf. 90min was spent just after the wedding taking group shots.
Thanks tim about the offer with the gallery stuff. I know what you mean, but with this one, I feel it would be too much of a hassle, trying to get everyone in on it.
Up until I leave work, I have too much on to worry about these.
I charged them solely for editing time, and gave them 4 CDs of images to print at their own cost. Prints with me would have cost couple thousand., I think that turned them off.
Thanks everyone else for the positive comments. It's appreciated, and good to know many people liked them.

Doing online ordering would only take an evening, and could get you quite a lot of $$$ in orders. If you have time to do it in the next couple of weeks then it's well worth doing. In the last 7 days i've gotten half a dozen orders myself.

Yeah, I may buy that software you use, if it's any good. Be good for future weddings, when they're not my workmates.
Does it automatically password protect galleries?
I just didnt want 1000 pics for all to see, when they're boring group shots. :p
tim
12th of March 2006 (Sun), 20:16
Hey, boring group photos sell! Pictures of kids sell even better - that's where most of my recent orders have come from. Yes you can password protect galleries, I don't, I just don't link to them so it's security by obscurity. You can split the proofs into sections, and the images are thumbnailed. That software ($130 or so) paid for itself inside of a week, the rest is profit!

Wazza, have you seen the movie, 40 Year Old Virgin, starring Steve Carell?
I immediately thought of that when I seen that picture. If you haven't seen it, well, you'll know what I mean if you ever watch it :D
Definately looks like it was a fun day.
