Hello, this is my first post.

Is there a trick to getting the 10D to sync up the the PC? I keep getting "Camera Not Found".

- The PC is new and I know both USB ports work.
- Battery is charged in the 10D
- I reloaded the software twice
- I got the camera to sync twice, changed nothing and now its not working again.
- I've restarted the system, took several steps in how and when the camera got turned on during the process...all with no luck.
- Running Win XP Pro.
- Read all the directions in the Canon book.

What is wrong?
Thanks,
Mike

I had similar problems but it was very intermittent. A reboot of the PC usually recitfied this situation. I too was using XP Pro.

I found it such a pain to hook up the camera each time that I have switched to a disk reader and have never had a problem. For what they are worth it is certainly money well spent

Thanks,
Still not working...does this sound like it's more of a pc problem than a camera problem? Any info is greatly appreciated.

SSIM: Which disk reader do your recommend?

Thanks in advance.

I have a Sandisk and it works perfectly. I bought mine in the US at BestBuy for less than $30. They are all cheap and I think any name brand is fine. Some take several kinds of cards if you need this .

All of your problem could be explained by the most likely culprit: one intermittent USB cable.

Thanks RobertWGross. I'm running to Best Buy to pick up a Sandisk Flash Card Reader for $19, I'll reply back with the results.

There is a firmware update that addresses problems with the USB connection that can be down loaded from Canon site.

Well.....I think I found the problem, and it has nothing to do with the cable, camera or PC. I believe it's the stenkin Compact Flash Card (SanDisk Ultra 512). From originally thinking it was the cable I went out and bought a SanDisk Card reader (which works well) and is what lead me to belive the problem is with the card itself). Heres what I've found:

I snapped 56 pics of my kid swinging his baseball bat, we viewed all his swings via the LCD on the camera...all looked good and all photos were there. Brought the disk inside and inserted it into the disk reader....I was prompted to choose an option and I selected the Canon zoom browser software, not all of the pics were displayed in the slide window. I ejected card and re-inserted and this time about 38 images appeared in the slide window. Then I took the card out of the reader and dropped it onto my desk (felt like slamming it), re-inserted it and all the images appeared. From here I ran into further inconsistent problems with actually downloading the images. I do not have an extra card to test and verify this but all evidence at this point is making me think its the card.

If anyone has any further thoughts I'd appreciate it. I'll come back with the solution in a few days after I exchange the card for a new/another one.

Thanks for all your help thus far,
Mike

Everybody, I am happy to say that the ultimate problem was WITH the CompactFlash Card!!! It was kind of a tricky problem to solve and one would not think to look into the CF card 1st.

Hopefully this topic will be of value to anyone new to the 10D and PC syncronization, as it would be challenging for someone without the basics of technical troubleshooting ability.

Above all I would like to thank everyone who contributed to helping me solve this problem...this forum kicks butt and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anybody.
