One quick and easy way is to create a duplicate layer. Desaturate the duplicate layer. Then use the eraser tool on the duplicate layer to bring out the areas where you want color. Does that make sense?

Now you need your eraser tool. And then erase the areas (working on the desaturated layer) where you want the color to show through.

There certainly may be... but that would be beyond my not very technical skills. :)

(Isn't it kinda late (or early) there in NZ?)

Tony, I found a nice book at Whitcouls for PSCS2 -- $30.00 It might help ;-) The CS2 for Dummies (like me) is too expensive and too technical...

Sure...make a duplicate copy of the entire layer first...just in case. Then magic wand the area or color you want. Then, while that area is selcted, just desat or whatever it is you do to make it BW. Voila!

I love doing selective coloring. This is how i do it: I put a gradient map over the image, and select the b/w color selection. It'll show up on the screen in b/w, then I select the brush tool, pick the color to black, then drag it over the part of the picture where i want the color to show through. Then i flatten the image and that's it. Here's an example of one of my works:
