Can anyone help explaining how to go about with the Hyperfocal technique applying on the canon EF lens?

There is nothing special about Canon EF lenses when it comes to hyperfocal distance. Find a standard hyperfocal distance chart and apply it.

If you have a subject at 20 feet, and if you focus on it, then it will be exactly on focus. However, you will get some near ground and back ground in focus also. How much of that you get is shown on the chart.

So, you can actually use this creatively. You might focus at 15 feet, if you know you want to get the 20 foot subject but less of the back ground.

no magic, no secret and it works like a charm. I have two DOF/ hyperfocal calculators for my Handspring prizm (read palm pilot).
there are about a billion charts on the web.... Here are some I have bookmarked....

It works to the full resolution of the film or sensor. If you are shooting something that is miles deep you'll find the senor/film will break down before the optics fail to resolve. Not a big deal as your eyes can't resolve detail that small anyway....

Have fun
