i have a 10D and wanted to use my old 420ez flash unit. it doesn's seem to work. does anyone have any ideas?

I think the 420EZ is not compatible with the D10. Check it up at www.dpreview.com. You will need something like the 420EX.

The 10D only works with EX series but not the EZ series.

The original poster referred to the model 10D, not D10.

Flash xxx-EZ would only work in manual mode. Flash xxx-EX will work compatibly in E-TTL mode, which is what you want.
