Hi everyone

In a few weeks i`m going to Greece for 10 days to spend the Easter holidays there.
Easter is a big thing in the Orthodox countrys and Greece is not exeption , so , great times ahaid...:D

That gave me the idea of posting some pictures taken last year and haven`t been posted before.
I`ll try to have them in 3 -4 series , i hope you enjoy them.

All pictures taken with canon 20D and Tokina 12 - 24 f4

Church of the Holy Apostles - built 1000 A.D - (Ancient Agora-Athens / inside the Akropolis area)

This is the entrance (west side) of the temple (which is built with solid marbel rock).
It looks though that some rock replacements have been done.
I need to remind you here that when Greece was oqupied but Turkie , they tried to destroy as much as they could , after all it was them who sold the big majority of valueable marbels from the Parthenon to the English , (sorry folks , thats just History , no offence).

Aper....f 11 - iso....400 - s/s....1/125 - f/l....12mm

The back of the temple at the east side (always built facing east) , the round part is where the holy table with all the stuff on it is kept and it has to face east.

Aper....f 11 - iso....200 - s/s....1/100 - f/l....15mm

The inside of the temple with the original paintings (not in a great condition i`m afraid) but we need to remember that its been a very long time and during this period we had wars vandalism etc.
Taken at high iso , too dark.

Aper....f 11 - iso....3200 - s/s....1/10 - f/l....12mm (cleaned in noise ninja)

A very old grave , suppused to be of one of the priest that served the temple.
Unfortunatly there was not date on the cross.
Made out of solid marbel and as you see the craftmanship is outstanding.

More good photos Dimitri, and I like #1 the best.

Although we'll no doubt overlap in the threads here on numerous occasions beforehand, I hope that you'll have a nice, relaxing, and photography-filled holiday. :)

These are beautiful, Dimitri. I had the pleasure of visiting Athens some years ago, enjoyed it very much. You got much better pictures than I. Would be great to know the area better. We saw this church, but didn't go inside. What a shame.

It is a shame Stan.
The church inside has a feelling that i can hardly explain , kind of very old spookyness, especially if you are inside alone and its quiet, you can almost hear gosts from the past.
Amazing place.

Nice shots Dimitri

I like to have a wander around old rellics and ruins too, like you said you always get an atmosphere around the place that some times cannot be discribed.

Last week I decided to climb the hill up to Wallace Monument, it was pitch dark with no-one around, when I began to think about the history of the place I'm not afraid to say I got the "Heebie-Jeebies" ;) :D

Amazing stuff. I will have to visit the area when I get back to Germany. The shout of the inside of the church really does it for me.
