Nice insect but there is a conflict between the red flowers on the left and the subject on the right. I find my eyes won't settle on either one!

I've had the exact same response elsewhere. I'll try a different approach with this.

Afraid I agree,

One of those 'rules' is that two is not a good number.

Not always a good rule, but in this case you shuttle from one to the other.

Also (on my screen at least) the reds on the flower are a bit indistinct, the petals tend to blend together.

That seems to be a problem I have with certain colours and I don't know why.

Could just be that there aren't a lot of tones in the red petals so unless they are separated by shadows there may be little definition there.

You could try messing with the levels on the red channel only? perhaps only on the flower.
