Got my A70 Friday. The camera seems to work fine and the software installs went ok. But when I connect the camera to the pc with the usb cable and power the camera on, windows says it has detected new hardware (specifiying the camera by name mind you) and then says it is loading software for the camera. At this point the load just sits there and hangs. The PC itself doesn't hang. I eventually have to do an end task to kill the process.
I'm running a DELL 933 with 512 RAM and Windows ME. I've uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times without success and even followed Canon's troubleshooting guide without success. HELP! I'm at wits end here. Thanks.

I haven't had to much probelsm with my software but from what i've read on this forum, when u installed the software origionally, the camera should not of been pluged in. And when u do connect, to download images, make sure its in view mode and turned on.

Other than that u'd have to play around with the drivers on ur computer and make sure there working. Have u tried to open it from other sources like FileViewerUtility or photoshop, infranview?

Thanks for reply. I've made sure the camera wasn't connected until it was supposed to be and when I tried opening it up in Zoom Browser it comes back and says No Camera Found. So far no good. If you can think of anything else let me know. Thanks.

I know this is kindergarden, but did you make sure your camera is set to review mode? My last camera I just plug in and download, so when I got my A70 I did the same thing and got the same error message (until I realized I had to flip the switch).

Just a thought, buy try importing in photoshop (assuming you have it). If your camera driver is properly installed, it will show up on the list.

Speaking of drivers, are you sure you installed the driver and not JUST the software? If it's saying camera not found, it sounds like the driver isn't there...

I'm pretty sure the driver loaded. And I did go to the link you sent me and did that also without success. I do know that when I loaded up the software and the option came up for the camera, the A70 wasn't listed but the instructions said if you camera isn't listed to just click next, which is what I did.

That's correct. I'm sorry, I wish I could help you, but I can't think of why it's not working! :(

And you KNOW it's going to be something really simple... LOL!

I'm thinking its more than ur average problem, someone will have to play with the drivers on ur computer first hand to be able to see whats happening.

How far do u get before the "no camera found"?

And how is your usb connected? I used mine off a hub and it didn't work, though the camera was buggerd, turned out to be the hug. Have u tried all possible USB ports on the back of ur computer?

Could always be a fault with the camera, mabey try it on another compter, if it doesn't work on that one aswell take it back.

I think I have several options. First I'm going to uninstall the software and then hook up the camera and turn it on and see what happens. If thats not good I forgot that my old camera is a Kodak that uses the same type of card so I can always put the card into that one and download that way. The other option is to just pick up a card reader and use that. I'll keep you posted. Thanks.

Have you got a second computer u can try it on, mates one mabey?
If it works on that then ur buggerd, if it doesnt u found the problem.

Found the problem! It was my Norton System Works. I needed to disable it and then do the install. Then I enabled it again and the camera loads fine. Canon emailed me with that solution. Wish they had put it in their troubleshooting guide. Thanks for you help. Appreciate it.
