The great shepherd of Etive seems to be on these forums a lot recently, and I've been responsible for some of these threads too.
This photo is a scan of one I took back on 1st March 1992  when I last climbed Buachaille Etive Mor. The photo looks onto the last steep bit of the climb before the final push onto Stob Dearg which is the famous peak in all the photos - apart from Dimitri's Blackrock Cottage (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=147184) where it is hiding behind the mist to the right! ;)

Very nice John,
Is that one or two little folk in the picture? Looks like one guy is hanging on for dear life.
The people make the picture John, mountains are notorious for denying the viewer any reference of scale. I mean when you look at one and say.. oh ah'll be up that in an hour. Only to find out it takes two hours just to reach the bottom of it!
All these mountain shots are making Cousins feet itchy... canny wait till June.
Cuzzin - who'll be back hame for 3 weeks in June/July.

It is Martin. There is one climbing (and it is pretty steep at that point too), one at the top on the snow, and a further couple just back a bit too. I know what you mean about the scale. I've climbed a number of hills now, and it is still very easy to underestimate the time and effort a walk might take.

super shot
I am afraid the only way I get up a mountain is via gondola and chairlift
I like to sk back down them
but climbing them just looks plain too scary

We followed the "traditional" route from the SMC Hillwalkers' Guide to The Munros which starts at the Altnafeadh car park, and goes past the Lagangarbh cottage. According to the Guide, by the time you've reached Stob Dearg, you will have walked 3km, did 750m of total ascent, and taken 2 hours. Once you get up, it would be daft not to go over the other two tops to reach the second Munro of Stob na Broige, by which point you'll have walked 7.5km, 1100m of total ascent, and taken 3 hours 30 mins. I've always found the guide times to be generous, and you will obviously have to double the length walked and almost double the time taken to determine the round trip figures. I've often found the time estimates generous too, but that was when I was reasonably fit and not taking long breaks. Now when I'm knackered, I just pretend to be taking a photograph. ;)

Thanks Andrew. I'm planning on taking photos from the 9718 ft high Zugspitze (in Germany) in May, but I'm definitely going to take the railroad and cable cars to the top of that one. :D

Looks like you are a Whisky lover John...
I have the top 40 listed on my site and Bunnahabhain Single Islay Malt is one of them.

Ohhhh,
Best you take them there altitude sickness tablets. That is one mother of a mountain. Pals of mine in the UK Army tell me they often get dumped by helicopter up in the Zugspitze mountains and told to make there way back to camp by morning.
If I remember correctly there's a rather unfortunate name for one of the ski resorts there. Whilst meaning nothing in German... it certainly raises some eyebrows amongst the British teenagers.
Now it's bugging me... I'm gonna do a search....
Hmmmmp... yep... I was right... best ya just go have a look for yerself because I know you'll think Cousin is pulling yer leg.

I don't drink very often, just the odd medicinal one now and again - for health reasons of course. Your list has some blended whiskys in amongst the single malts. ;)

Yes, I noticed the town too. Ironically it is close to the end of The Romantic Road (Die Romantische Strasse (http://www.romantischestrasse.de/?lang=uk)). I wonder if there's any connection? ;)

Another lovely shot, John. Those 'micro' people really give a sense of the huge scale of the place. :D
1992? I was about 8 (ish)

Ah'll stick up fur ye Cousin... I had to look twice myself.
I though John meant that he was another 24 years older from 1992 to today... which would make 14... so I too thought it was a typo.
Either that or we both share the same visualisation skills..... oh boy.... now we're in trouble.
Cuz.

Ah, I can see the potential for confusion now. Let me clarify! In 1992, I was 32, and Trevor was 8. This means that I am 24 years older than Trevor. :)
