shooting cirect to laptop

When i shoot long exposures it takes for ages for the pic to be processed in the camera. say i took a 20 min exposure it will take about that long for the pic to show up on the screen.

If i connected the camera directly to a laptop and use the software that comes with the 20D will it process the pic faster?

The long processing time is because of the long exposure noise reduction. If you turn that option off, the image will be processed immediately after the shutter closes.

Remote capture with a laptop won't make things any different. The camera actually takes a second picture with the shutter closed as part of the process.
