View Full Version : Accidentally acceptable?

I was walking through an underpass at a park, and, at the end of the tunnel, there was a father and son, with fishing poles over their shoulders. I whipped out the camera... but forgot that the last time I shot anything was at night, and it was in Tv mode, set at 1.3sec. So obviously, it came out overexposed, but I really like the effect it created. It looks so surreal. Absract. Art. I guess sometimes accidents... aren't. What do you think?

Interesting image Chris, especially for something that was accidental. Have you considered going back and taking another long exposure with a tripod? That way the tunnel would be sharper, but you would still have the light blown out. I'm not sure if the tunnel being sharper would improve the image or not, but it was just a thought.

I think it works quite well Chris. Kinda like a tunnel into heaven or something.

Martin.

Thanks Chuck. Yes, I thought about going back, and using a tripod... but just haven't done it. I kind of like the way the tunnel itself is blurred... but then again, since I am shooting digital, it won't cost a thing to shoot it in focus, and see how I like that. I meant to go there this weekend, but the shrubs needed trimming, the grass needed mowing, the wife needed me to go shopping with her, etc...... http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smile4.gif

Thank you Martin. That's the first thing I thought of when I viewed this image on my monitor. I actually titled it "Step Into The Light" in the little gallery on the site that's hosting it. I'm glad I didn't immediately delete this image, as was my first reaction when seeing the preview on the LCD.

To me, its crying out for something in it.
Im not too sure that its 'enough' on its own, but it would be a fantastic background for something else.
All you need now is another shot to composite
A fast car coming straight towards you?
Someone looking over their shoulder?
Someone with more inspiration than me to help out!!!

Now, that's an idea. I think I may do that. Thanks.
For anyone interested... this is what the tunnel actually looks like... exposed correctly.

Excellent tunnel shot. The outside seems a bit blue though.
I like how you have both interior and exterior well lit, and how you include a hint of daylight falling on the close wall on the right.
