Which crop of this image would you choose for an 11x14 framed print? I don't need an opinion on the image, just the crop. Deadline: being printed in 2 hours!
(images removed as decision has been made)

Tim, I know that generally the off center crop is supposed to be better but I think the centered one is the better of these two. If I were the client, I would choose #1.

I agree with Char. The focus is more on the couple in the first one. Off-center doesn't seem to work as well for this particular portrait.

Thanks Char, Saralonde. Every woman i've asked has said #1 - only one guy's said #2. #1 it is I think :)

I think if the groom was on the first third line and the bride was in the middle it would work a little better than either crop. Just an idea.

My preference is #1. Not sure why, but I think it works better.

im a gal and i voted for number 2...i just like rule of thirds and i think it worked well with this shot....yes centre of interest is important...but i like number 2 the best.....

I've decided to go with #1, I think the couple will prefer it. Thanks for all the help! :)

Good luck. Tim, the groom looked pissed off... whilst his bride was having fun... what is it with grooms these days?

I made him look happier using the liquify filter... but it would be bad taste to post that here. #1 is done, off to the lab!

The contract my customers sign allow me to use their images for anything "consistent with the highest standards of taste and judgment". Posting that photo would be unethical and breach of contract. Now if the photo was of me or one of my friends... then i'd post it :)

What scares me Tim.
You said you can post anything tasteful and consistant with good taste.
But, and here's the scary part, what kind of smile did you give this guy?
I mean, we're not talking The Joker smile are we? :)

Their images Tim? They hold the copyright? How are the copyright laws over there?

That's just a badly worded post - I meant images of them. I hold the copyright for the images.

So your own contract restricts the use of your images? Is there any reason for that?

To reassure customers that i'm not going to do anything untoward with images of them.

ooh, i see.
In the U.S., I'm pretty sure you can be sued for defamatory use of images even with a general release, so putting it in the contract would be redundant. I don't know if posting it on the forum would be considered defamatory

Lawsuits aren't so big in the rest of the world, but you can get a bad reputation. It may be redundant but it's good for customers to see there, not many people would know anything about copyright law.

Judging by the way NZer's hog forums, and online chat sites, it wouldn't be a surprise a friend of aunty Judy's best friends neighbour is also viewing the forum.
Yep, bad reputation means not as many customers. Just as long as you don't get a court case for bad images, or appear on Fair Go.

I get into the business when someone asked me to take the wedding photos. I did a lot of homework, visited studos to look at wall displays and made a list. Then after that, people just started to buy my photography. I loved taking Mondays off....
