Hello, I'm trying to insert an image as a test into the D30_photos/ . My question is, "what is the best way to start?"
Example - I scan an image - what is the best size & dpi
to start with?
-next-
I place it into the microthumbs ../D30_photos/microthumbs, and edit from there?
My problem in I scan an image 300 dpi/jpg, move it into the dir. and it is HUGE (bigger) than the others? And than I see the image, but when it displays I just see a "red" thumbnail?
I'm using the 1.3 ver.
Thanks

Hi,
300 dpi scan for display on a computer monitor is too high a resolution. For a 4 x 6 photo this would give you an image that is 1200 x 1800 pixels in size. I would guess that the average person has their monitor set to one of the resolutions around 1024 x 768 pixels. As you see your photo would be larger than what the monitor can display without scrolling.
For testing puposes you can scan your photo at 96 dpi and this will give you an image that is 384 by 576 pixels in size. This would be a good average size for display on a computer monitor.
The second issue you probably have is the actual size of the file. If you take it straight from your scan it is could be as much as 800-900 kilobytes in size, which is relatively large for displaying over the internet. You need to open this file in some photo editing program and re-save it as a jpeg file with enough compression to get the image size down to 100-200 kilobytes or so...
For a quick test photo the above will give you something to play with...

OK I'll give it a try. I have PhotoShop, PaintShop, and Fireworks.
What is with the "Check validity of size paths for this filename?"
Would this be something of a warning if the image size is still to big?
thanks
