Duotone Work

Howdy all,

Well, it was a slow week at work, and I was able to use the laptop to work on some of my recent First Wedding shots.

I was challenged, on another forum, by a very talented wedding shooter, to try my hand at some b&w treatments.

This was my response to that challenge.

Printed this out with my Epson R220 with the Premium Luster Photo Paper, and had my sox knocked off, and will be placing this in my portfolio.

Very tastefully done, I think the treatment is perfect for the image and really adds to it.

Oh yeh that is so much better than the original, its really beautiful with the sepia great job!!!

You could take it a step further and remove the background completely, but it's hardly distracting as is.

Have you just done a B&W conversion, changed the tint to sepia, and applied a medium strength vignette? No softening or anything? I'd probably remove the blemishes from the face of the woman.

Softened up the image with gaussian blur to soften the background. Removed the GB around the subjects, and flattened layers. Then I used the healing brush to clean up
her complexion just a bit, didn't want to go overboard. Created another layer for creating the vignette. Feathered the mask by about 170 pixels, and then lowered the opacity. After doing that, I used the Duotone tool and reduced it just a hair.

I highly recommend this book, it's well written for both PS pro's and for those just getting started: The Photoshop CS2 Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelley.

i think photoshop is a lifesaver, i never had the patience to do the processing work in the darkroom...EVER! Burning in, dodging, sepia all that crap bugged the hell out of me! It's sooooo muuuuuuuch easier in PS...just thought id mention how much i love it hehe :) and in fact my experience in PS might have just got me a job...im excited! LOL

color looks great, but IMO your gausian blur radius is too big and you might want to tone it down a tad bit as well
