Well, I finally done it ! I have sold my 20D and just taken delivery of my new 5D:)
All I can say is WOW !!! what a difference (but I would say that anyway!) The only downside is, I think today is the worst greyest, dullest day this year:cry:
So I'm waiting for the sun to come out and to stop raining and i will post some pics. The full frame is fantastic, I never realized my 17-40 mm would go that wide!

How is the viewfinder ? Is it as Bright and as Wide as reported ?

Congratulations!
Now go take a picture of a wide angle duck for all those old timers that promote that tradition. Sadly, I didn't know about it until I had all my gear. I guess I'll have to buy a new lens so that I can get me a duck post?

When I held and used a 5D for the first time all I could say was "Woah" like Keanu Reeves. The viewfinder felt bigger and the camera felt like a tank. Similar feel to the 20D but more complete.
Have fun with the camera. I'm jealous. :)

Join the club. I just received mine two days ago. I can't believe how much less post-processing is necessary with the 5D. So much less noise and the colors are much better than the 20D. That is not to say that the 20D is a bad camera at all...it will always be my first love and I will keep it until she breathes no more.

Yes the viewfinder is bigger and brighter, but to be honest not that much different from the 20D.
With the current rebates at the moment in the UK, I could not resist the camera at £1500 (after rebate) around $2500 usd.
Sam the last duck I shot was back with my 300d ! Lets just say, i have moved on since then!

I have never put a 5D in my hands just because I would be so tempted to sell my 10D and 20D to get it. Congrats on your new tool (toy) and have a great time. No ducks today, huh? Even though it's raining. :)

Suzy--Good strategy!! Unfortunately for me, I did check one out; now I'm re-reading all those threads about sweet talking the other half!!:p :p

I'm not desserting - I'm just cheating. My 5D arrives on Monday - if I trust Brown. My 20D will continue to see use.

Congrats on the new tool. I got to hold one a while ago and was impressed. It's a nice move from a 20D. I have been very impressed with the images posted here from the 5D.

Congratulations and welcome to the club. I bought one when they first came out and had to listen to all the nay-sayers and internet experts say it was not worth the money. But, now that the results are coming in and reports from real users, the 5D is earning a great reputation in spite of them. The proof is in actually having and using one.

Andy, how did you end up selling your 20D? Did the shop take a trade in or did you ebay it? I am looking to do exactly the same thing.

I am waiting for one more price drop, hope the wait isn't too long. I don't think I will sell my 20d however. I think the multiplier will still come in handy.

Congrats and Good Luck! I shoot a lot of sports and I'm really torn between a 5D and the N as my next camera. The N will be a significant improvement over my 20D, but the 5D will expand my shooting portfolios capabilities ... aarrrrgh ... maybe a D200 which is a little of both - lol

I sold it on Ebay, got a good price and the person drove up the same day from London to collect it (200miles) ! Camera shops will fleece you if you attempt to "trade in".
Just look on ebay and post your price around the going rate.

Andy, Guess you paid £1,699. Where did you buy yours from? Any sight of the Canon rebate cheque yet?
Anywhere sell it cheaper than £1,699 in the UK, as I'll be buying one for my wife's birthday next month.

Well hope your 17-40 doesnt have my problem!
I didnt notice til I got the 5D but with the FF then I could see that it was MUCH softer down one side than the other, so have just sent it back for repair- fingers crossed!

There is something empowering about shooting with full frame. For most of us, however, I don't think it's anything other than the recognition that the price of admission is a little higher than than smaller-sensored bodies. A lot of us are buying 5Ds and even the more expensive model, and we don't need them, can't use them, and derive greater satisfaction from telling we people we own them than from the ultra-sharp photos we're supposed to be taking with them.
The sad truth is, many of my favorite photos were taken with a 10D, and (god forbid), non-L lenses.
By the way, did I tell you I own a full-frame DSLR?
Just kidding. Enjoy the new camera, and have a ball with all those extra pixels when it comes time to crop an image. There really is a difference.

Is there a surge of new 5D owners? I see this trend in several photography fora. May be the 30D coming out pushed some of the current 20D owners to 5D? Or is it just now the price is right?

I purchased the 5D from warehousexpress.com £1699 (£1499 with the rebate). Order by 2pm and garanteed next day delivery!
I have not noticed any problems with the 17-40 yet but I'm going to Florida next month so I will see how it behaves with some real sunshine!
I also think there is a big surge at the minute with 5d buyers due to the very dissapointing (to 20d owners anyway) of the 30d. I think a lot of us were waiting for something with 1.3x crop or full frame that would be a definate upgrade.
I don't know if it's just me but when I hold the 5D it feels like I will have this camera forever as, for me anyway!
I know the 1ds mk2 is a super fast machine but the 5D feels like you have reached the top if if you don't need the speed or your not a sports photographer, Other than a hasslebad or similar theres no better machine for me!!

It must be the lack of a formidable 20d upgrade. I was waiting for it and almost bought the 30d when I was forced to consider the 5d. After looking at my first series of shots I wondered what the hell I was waiting for.
Congratulations.

Yeah, I see what you mean. While waiting and keep reading about the 30D I was forced to consider other cameras also. I've decided on the 30D. But today I went to the local Canon dealer and held a 5D in my hand. It was difficult to let go :o
