OK people I recently had a client wanting to know how much I charged for travelling.(Sudbury to Earlton about 3 hours) I told them it would be $1000 extra. I have a Ram 4x4 gas would cost about $200 2 nights stay at a hotel/motel meals..plus there engagement shoot up there...etc. Do you guys think this is too much? How much would you charge? I also planned it for shipping there photos to them. I normally got to the client when dropping off there stuff. I find it more personal. I just want to see if am off my rocker or some what on track. Oh yeah My most expensive wedding package is only $1500.(all day coverage, any location, 16x20 print mounted, all image high res on DVD, 200 print proof album & DVD show plus my engagment package which is by it self $250. It contains 2 hour shoot, 50 proofs, high res CD, 11x14 print mounted, 2 8x10's and 4-5x7's) Thank you all for your comments in advanced.

The last time i travelled for the wedding i charged $200 because i stayed with family, it was a 3hr drive so i only charged for fuel, in saying that - im not a pro so i was doing it for experience.

$1000 sounds like a lot to me, but given the hotel, the fuel, and the trouble, it's probably not unreasonble. Given the expense though in their position i'd prefer to get another photographer who was more local.

Traveling fees could also cover "opportunity cost," the opportunities you missed to shoot other paying jobs because you were traveling for 2 half-days (which really kills two full days).

If the travel cash is too much for them, add a little something extra to keep them interested. :D

I think that the way the price of gas is going, most folks should understand about that expense.

I was about to post a comment to PIXI's until i read GPR1's post... that really got me thinking and he's correct.. so i think the more one feels there'll be more opportunity to be missed by leaving ergo the more opportunities missed, the bigger the traveling fees.. excellent food for thought

Tim good point, she has not called me back so I assume that she has found someone else. Still, She would have been getting alot of of stuff, and there are not too many locals were she live. But #$@% no-were. If you get my drift. Thank guys. I might end up droping it to $500 for the next one to see if they bite. However I might be cutting my throught.
