I wrote an e-mail to Canon's Technical Support regarding the use of my Norman 200B & 400B portable flash units with the Canon EOS 10D. I use these units specifically for autoracing photography. I am currently using them with my Canon T90's.
Canon suggested some type of "safe sync" device to protect the EOS 10D because the "trigger voltage" for these flash units may be too high and may also cause damage to the electronics within the EOS 10D.

MY question is :

1.) Is there anyone out there with a similar issue??
2.) Can someone recomend a manufacturer of such a device???

p.s. I believe the "trigger voltage" for the Norman 200B & 400B is 480 volts (D.C.).

THANKS to anyone that can HELP.

Here's a link to the device you seek: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/product/32406/LU088/REG/5656

"Plugs into a flash at the household (H type) sync jack and limits the voltage presented to the camera to 6-1/2 volts. This is very important for some computerized cameras, some traditional cameras will also benefit from the lower sync voltage. "

I'm glad you pointed this out because I just purchased a 10D and I own a 200b that I would have just attached to the camera and not given a second thought to until it was probably too late. I'll just not use Norman with my 10D.

Another name to look into is Wein. They make a voltage buffer, too.

Any knowledge concerning the Sunpak 120j's? I own two and love them. I'd like to be able to use them without concern.

Here's a link to a site where flash units are reviewed and a simple YES/NO/YOUR CALL recommendation is made concerning Canon digital cameras and your flash units: http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html
The site answers my question RE: Sunpak120J and the answer is: Your Call
