I used to be able to right click (RC) on a jpg and from the menu that appears select 'edit with photoshop'. This is when I was on PS CS
I uninstalled PS CS and installed PS CS2, and now the option 'edit in photoshop' has disappeared when I RC on a jpg. Does anyone know how to get it back? perhaps a registry change or something?
There is an option 'edit' but then that opens the jpg to edit in MSPAINT which is about as useful as wetting your pants to keep warm in the winter!

You should still be able to select open with, then choose program, and select CS2.

yep. that is an option, but i cannot do that with multiple files selected. tried it yesterday with 5 selected and it only opens one within PS... :(
do other PS CS2 users see this option 'edit with PS'?

Right Click... Open With... Choose Program... and then choose the program and check off the box that says something like "Always use the selected program...." That should make it a permanent choise in the "Open With" dialog, and you *should* be able to open 5 at once...

: ( nope. i think i am being a bit pedantic now, but if i do that, it means that I cannot 'quickly' open the jpgs in the windows fax viewer, as it will then fire them up in PS, and PS invariably takes a long time to open :( and thus i would prefer to open them in windows fax viewer as the dafault application as it is quicker : ) does anyone else have the same problem with PS CS2 after installing as whereby RC'ing on a jpg does not show the 'edit with PS' option? ho hum...
maybe if I sleep tonight and wake up in the morning, it will magically reappear again! i doubt it, but i can always dream...

If you do what I suggested - but don't check "Always open with..." - you can now right-click, choose Open With... and Photoshop CS2 should be an option.

You have a file association issue:
Changing and Editing File Associations
To Change a File Association Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Folder Options. Click the File Types tab. Click the file type whose association you want to change, and then click Change. Click the program you want to associate with the file type, and then click OK.
To Edit a File Association Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Click the View All Control Panel Options link, if it is present. Double-click Folder Options. Click the File Types tab. Click the file type whose association you want to change, and then click Advanced. Click the action you want to edit, and then click Edit. Edit the file association as necessary, and then click OK.
To Restore Default File Associations Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Click the View All Control Panel Options link, if it is present. Double-click Folder Options. Flick the File Types tab. Click the file type whose association you want to restore, and then click Restore.
When a file association is changed, the original association is stored in the Registry to provide the ability to undo the change. If this has happened, the file information on the File Types tab of Folder Options includes a Restore button in place of Advanced. Only the initial file association can be restored. This means that if a file association is changed three times, the Restore button only restores the original file association

Who wants to hack the registry?
Click Start,. Run,. type in "Regedit" and click okay.
Click the check box next to Hkey_Classes_root
scroll way down untill you find a folder labeled .jpg
click that and then open the folder "shell"
Right click on Shell and select "new" and "key"
Label the new key "EditPSCS"
* Note that in the right hand window the name "Default" and "value not set" appear
* Double click on the "Default", (or the small "ab" icon to the left)
* This brings up an Edit window which is used to set the default value
*Enter "Edit with Photoshop" into the "value data" feild.. the lower of the two,. and click o-kay.
Now right click on EditPSCS folder and select new and key again.
Name this new key "command" <--- no quotes,. get this correct.
* Again double click on the "Default", (or the small "ab" icon to the left)
*Here we enter the exact "path" to the program,. PSCS
Example:
D:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\photoshop.exe "%1" <-- with quotes this time :) Use C: as opposed to D: if apropriate.
Clcik O-kay.. and that 's that...

Hah..
Jim was faster...
These will do two different things..
Jim's solution will mean everytime you double click the file type it will open in PSCS.
The registry hack will add a right click menu item which will hopefully do the same as what you were used to....

I have PSCS and I get "Edit in Photoshop CS" when I right-click on a jpeg file in Explorer. But, guess what? I can't get PSCS to open more than one image file at a time in PSCS even if I have 2 or more selected. The only one that opens is the one with on which the mouse cursor is. So if it ever did work with multiple images before, something must have happened, probably some XP patch, to make it not happen anymore.

Thanks Jim, this option worked a treat. I added a new type 'editPS' and associated it with the PS CS2 app. and to my joy it managed to open multiple JPEGs at the same time. and not a regedit needed : )
saves me a few seconds, but every second counts. now for that RAM upgrade : )

I know this is an old post and the answer may have already been posted elsewhere, but I had the same problem and just found this thread as the top result on google. So I thought I would add this for anybody else who might need a solution.
My solution was to add Photoshop CS2 to the right click "Send To" Menu as shown at http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/75
Just drag any Photoshop CS2 shortcut into the Send To folder and it will allow you to open multiple images into photoshop by right clicking on them...
