Black Necked Swan

I saw this beauty (imho) and thought...oh yes,it looks really gorgeous,a bit different from the ordinary swans.
It wasn`t very long though before i realised what a nightmare it was to get the expossure right.
Black on white?...Tricky,very tricky.

After trying different things, the bottom line was...expose for the white.
And that i believe was the best thing to do,especially with that light.

The Black-necked Swan (Cygnus melancoryphus) is a member of the duck, goose and swan family Anatidae.
It is a waterbird of South America.
It breeds in Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego and on the Falkland Islands.
In winter, it migrates northwards to Paraguay and southern Brazil.
The Laguna Blanca National Park in Argentina is a protected home of it.

This is a beautiful bird. I like the second shot best. I like his reflection in the water, and the interesting pose as he bites his feathers like that. I never knew about this black-necked swan; very cool!:)

I think i took around 30 pictures with different expossures and the only ones that came out well were the ones expossed for the white.

Dimitri, indeed, a difficult subject to expose... but you've done well. Aren't you glad that we no longer have to worry about how many rolls of film we have to expose to get a good pic? I'm still working on getting my batting average up... I'd be happy if 25% of my shots were great.

Oh yes John,i remember in the film days (with alot less experience) i used to bin rolls of film because of the expossure, its much easyer now, especially if you carry plenty of storage...:lol::lol:
