I just received today a set of kenko tubes and I'm wondering what is the best combination to use with my lenses ?
My lenses are : 18-55 kit lens, 50mm 1.8, Tamron 28-75, and 70-200 4L.
I know that these tubes doesn't work (directly) with the 18-55 (EF-S).
I have tried the combination 3tubes+70-200 @ 200. This gives me a good working distance, but not the highest magnification.
What is the best compromise between working distance and magnification considering my lenses ?
What is the combination you use most of the time ? 1, 2, 3 tubes ? which lens ?

The two best options are: 70-200mm @ 70mm and 50mm. I think the 50 will give higher magnification.

the 28- 75 and the 36mm tube or the 50 and 36mm tube. I like to use the 36 because it gives good magnification and you dont have to keep switching lens because means dust AHHHHH

would using the tamron 28-75 be better than using a 50mm prime lens?

Would a 50mm with a 36mm extension tube yield a higher magnification than the 100mm 2.8 macro?

With the tamron you get a range of focal lengths, hence a range of magnifications (essentially infinite with zero working distance at 28mm). Also the tamron has better close focus than the 50 to begin with, and with the tamron you can use the zoom ring for focusing (easier with tubes than using the focus ring). I get pretty good shots with my tamron + tubes.
