Hey guys,
I'm looking for a new camera bag..nothing too big and nothing too small. I already have large backpack, and a hip pack that only carries the camera with lense attached.
I have been looking at a Tamrac Velocity 7 sling pack or the velocity 9 ( which is a little bigger- but maybe too big) ..The problem is I can't tell if it will work by looking at a picture..and I can't find any stores that carry this one locally.
Any of you guys ever use this bag? And will it fit the 10D with some other stuff? Pros/Cons?
Thanks all.

I checked out the velocity 9. It won't comfortably fit the 10D if you have the battery grip attached. Without the grip it'll hold the camera with the 24-70L attached with no problems. there is room it it but not much. I found that it wouldn't hold all of my essential kit all at once so I took a pass on it.
Essential kit contents: 10D w/grip, 24-70L, 70-200L, 550EX, turbo battery/cable. Sekonic meter and filters, lens cloths, etc. It's really not that much stuff so that should give you an Idea how small it is.

The Velocity 7 is a great bag for a camera body and a single lense. That leaves room for extra batteries and flash. If you plan on taking two lenses, it's too small.

I have owned both the Velocity 7 and the 9. I like to walk long distances when I travel and these bags do the trick unlike anything else I have seen or tried for comfort on day trips. The Velocity 7 is far too small for the 10D but the Velocity 9 will work. I have the 10D with the BG3 battery pack, a 17-40L, 28-135iS, and a 70-200L f4. All of this fits with a 420 EX and a battery charger and lens cleaning accesories to boot. I will say that getting them all in there at the same time is pushing the bag to its limits so what I will do is pair the kit down to what I know I might need that day ususally just the 10D and lenses. The fit with the battery pack is a little tight at the top but no problems for me with over 90 kilometers of walking so far this summer. I personally love the bag.
Hope this helps.

In reply to your question about the sling bag. I've been using the 7 all summer @ Sea World and just got back from Miami shooting film on the beach & USATF Jr. Olympics. I really do enjoy the ease of use over the hip bags, I've learned to scale down and carry only what I truley need per the event and it is leaves your hands free. I've not tried to use it with the 10D yet to to the $$$ but hopefully by October I'll have that covered. I carry the ElanII, Sigma 28mm-200 zoom, 420 flash, a pocket digital and around six rolls of film & spare batteries with no problemsand sometimes a extra 28mm-135mm lens. Its is also very easy to carry inside a backpack or suitcase for travel.

I carry the following:
10D Body
Sigma 28-300mm CHZ
Canon 100mm 2.8 macro
Canon 50mm 1.8
Canon 420ex flash
Sekonic L-358 meter
3 sets of AA batteries
2 extra camera batteries
4 67mm lenses in their plastic cases
cleaning stuff
software cd and all cables
That's a load of stuff and was a bit too much for the velocity 7. I recently upgraded to a 9. I love these bags in general... they're very comfy, especially when carrying such a heavy load. I don't travel without them. The waist strap works great at relieving some of the load. The swing-around design is fantastic for quick access and to make lens changes. (FWIW: I think a shoulder bag would be better for quick changes, but aren't nearly as comfy to carry).

I used to always use the Battery Grip, but it made the camera too bulky to carry around outside the studio. I now use the camera without it and carry one or two spare batteries. I haven't noticed any loss of function and it fits just fine in my Velocity 7 and Tamrac Expedition 5. It's also a heck of a light easier to snap on and off a tripod with a quick release without the extra weight. Each to his own.
