I picked up the 35L after work today and finally had a chance to put it on my camera. Being as late as it is, I couldn't find a real duck. But, I'm pretty sure this hummingbird wishes it could swim. This pic is pretty much straight from the camera (slight curves adjustment, no sharpening, added frame, resized, save for Web).

When they called to tell me one of my lenses had arrived (I also ordered a 135L), I assumed it would be the 135L because the 35L is out of stock virtually every place I checked. When I got to the camera store, their Canon rep was there and he told me this 35L is the only one Canon is shipping to the "Midwest" region this month. So, I feel quite honored (and frankly, a bit unworthy).

The EF 35L never fails to please. I plan on adding this lens to my collection in the future... way out in the future.

I was thinking "Wow!" as it started to come up, then noticed it was porcelain. Then noticed the title! :{)#

Looks like a good one!

I had a chance to get outside today and take some shots with the 35L. It was pretty windy around here which made it difficult to get these type of pics with the narrow DOF at f/1.4, especially as close as I was to the subjects. The first 3 photos were all shot at f/1.4, 1/4000 sec., and ISO 100. The last photo was shot at f/2.8, 1/600 sec., and ISO 100. I included it to illustrate the difference in bokeh between f/1.4 and f/2.8. (I chose f/2.8 because that was the best I could do with my other lenses.)

Bottom line, I love this lens!

 I'm sure that I don't have the slightest idea what you are talking about.

Thanks guys. This lens was a birthday gift from my wife (along with the 135L that I haven't received yet). I had a lot of fun with it this weekend.

You know, I did the calculations and such. But until I started trying to shoot @ f/1.4, I really didn't appreciate how razor thin the DOF can be, especially when the wind is moving everything around. That is what I liked about the 2nd pic in my 2nd post. There is a thin slice near the middle of the plant that is in focus while the parts of the plant that are just an inch or so closer or farther away are quite OOF.

That is a SWEET lens. Someday I hope to acquire one to replace my trusty old 35mm ƒ/2.0 that just bit it a second time.

I did a leaf shoot a while back using the 35mm ƒ2/.0 and it's a lot of fun. You definitely need to stop down a little as you've found out. But what's nice is the close focusing range on the 35mm's. I used a set of three close-up filters (52mm) on my 35mm ƒ/2.0 and managed to pull off some interesting macro shots - handheld.

If I had to pick one lens to have - this would probably be it.

I always wondered if people were exaggerating about how good the 35L was, so I decided to pick one up and try it out. I don't think it really set in for me how much I enjoy using it until I found myself shooting in a library at ISO 200 without a flash

The more you use it, the more you will appreciate it.
