BB is back in good form at Infineon. Day One was a total loss becasue of rain so the boys were kicking to go get some testing done.

Well............#2 is good, LOL. I like the heat distortion behind the bike.

HAhahah...man...no B-Boz fans huh!?!?

I always like the pit-lane candids.

And I agree with Skip that the BG on number two looks spectacular with the distorsion from the heat.

...I like the black and white. It's not often used in modern motorsports photography but it certainly works well for certain applications.

I was a Bostrom fan back in his WSC days. But for the last few years, I just see so much talent squandered. I hope he gets back into his old form someday.

Nice shots. On #2, were you using the 100-400 with 1.4x? If so, how bright was it out there? From the exif, looks like it was just barely fast enough to get that shot. I've never tried the 1.4x and was wondering if maybe I should.

It was a partly cloudy day... it would go dark and get light in an instant as cloud cover flew over. The 1.4x works very well but you do lose that 1 stop making the 100-400 a f8. I have used the 1.4x and acheived some of the sharpest shots in my collection. The Zoom is good for Motorsports becasue you can pull wide for action (crashes) that happen right in front of you but I'm eyeing a 400/2.8 for the main when I shoot... I might have to sell my car :-)

personally , i dislike the 400 2.8 with the converter. not only do you lose 1 stop, but the sharpness is what does it for me. no longer are the shots as sharp with even the 1.4 converter. by itslef it's a great lens, but for shooting motorsports i also need distance. i use the 600 f4 for long range and use the 400 5.6 for the shorter stuff.

Why you gotta hate like that??? :-)

I can assure you before I buy my next big lens I will thourghly test it to see what I like. The Plan is to have the 400/2.8 (or 300) stand alone and a 600/4 as well, no converters. Unfortunatly today I have to use a combination to acheive certain distances. Since I had to rebuy all my gear from scratch (moving from film) I choose an array of zooms to get the job done initially covering a wide range of focal lengths. Now it's time to add some big primes.

I have seen some (unprocessed) shots with a 400/2.8 + 1.4x that you could slice your laptop in half with - so I'm not totally convinced it would kill the sharpness. I may have to use the 1.4x until I add the 600mm.
