thats a lovely shot but wouldn't in look better if it was landscape rather than portrait? I say that because the bike is going from right to left and not bottom to top. Or am I wrong?

Your wrong actually. :) Shooting up hill like that wth the bikes cresting presents more drama in portrait... but that the great thing about this we can disagree and still be friends.

Take a look at these links - Two images that Dito shot from that location, both good pictures but I prefer the portrait look. What do you think?

http://gotbluemilk.com/web060317/imagepages/image15.htmlWhen it's almost dead straight front-on then I'd go with portrait but more of a side perspective would look better (in my opinion) as landscape.

I've got a lucky pic from the Isle of Man that I took last year somewhere, if I can find it I'll show you what I mean :)

edit - the first pic on this thread (http://cof.tigerroar.co.uk/showthread.php?t=3604&highlight=isle)

I still disagree for the shot... looking up the hill in landscape just doesn't provide the drama here. The shot you referenced is taken from what appears to be a straight/slightly right position on at a similar height... in that case I would have shot landscape.

In the shot above if I was fifteen feet to the left Tommy woud have run me over. In this case it's about as straight on as you can get from that location. In the end its up to tthe shooter.

A lot of throttle input can help steer you... sometimes the wrong way!!!

this is quite amazing! only if i had a 1DM2 and some L lens, oh and cant forget THE SKILL!

as for the 2 links you posted, my advice on those would be to photoshop that building ( i think) out of the BG

Skill?I have none I was just pointing the camera in the general direction - I think I pushed the shutter button a couple of times  :)

Those links were to compare landscape and portrait in the same location... also those are Dito's pics not mine. My guess he would remove the errant object in the background if he was going to edit them.

Portrait is 10x better, makes a good cover shot, and the difficulty getting that fitted is makes the picture awesome. I have some portraits shots as well and wish I took more like them, and this one, awesome job.

Thanks Dito. There are plenty of shots of the "spot" that day but only a few came throught to my liking - This is one.

Something weird happened... my keeper ratio was way higher on the Ducati pics than any others... I still need to sort them as I haven't even posted the Honda's yet.

I have only shot at Infineon a few times and I'm still learning the lay of the land... I will probably just attach a GPS to you and follow the master!!! :)

looks great...I think it stands out really nice against the background...and on this particular one landscape orientation would have left too much negative space for me

Thanks I was trying to explain it before but you put it perfectly.

Damn I love this one! Of course...the fact that my 2006 ZX-10R will be coming home in a few days does add a little...personal attachment...

It's great to see the Kawi's back in Superbike this year...I hope Roger recovers enough to get some testing in before Barber.

Great shot RCG!

Portrait is better, but square, as in the avatar, is best. It fills the frame diagonaly. That shot is what it's all about. Congrats.

Portrait is better, but square, as in the avatar, is best. It fills the frame diagonaly. This is a very good point. Other than having a choice of crops, I'd say this shot is just about perfect. :D

Thanks fellas... all this talk of cropping makes me look at this image differntly than when first posted - in fact I do like it as a square!!! I have some others shot as landscape and didn't find them appealling at all. Does anoyone know where the "square" button is on the 1DmkII? ;-)
