Hey I was looking for a photography forum and was hoping someone would know about my camera and, low and behold, i find the CANON digital photgraphy forum! Rock on! :p

Okay, so I was just wondering if there was a remote shutter release I could buy for my PowerShot A70? Please say yes! Thanks!

Yip, there is one, its called your index finger :) ;)

Unforunatly I think the G series is the only compact with a remote release, but since there is no bulb function on the A series they have little use for one.
If your worried about camera shake from pressing the shutter button just use the self timer.
I know on the A40 and A80 it has a 2sec, and 10sec option :)

I know its not convenient but you can use a computer as a remote release for the A70. The software Canon provided has this ability. It can do remote capture, or it do time lapse where it takes a pic every XX minutes or seconds for XX amount of time.

I looked into this myself a couple months back :) Since i use a laptop its definatly a viable option for me, with a desktop I guess it would be fairly useless.

The "Remote Capture" that Sheridan is referring to is actually part of the software included with the Powershot A70. You connect the camera to the desktop or laptop with the supplied USB cord and launch the application. You can preview and compose the image on the computer display, and use most of the camera controls remotely. I have used "Remote Capture" quite succesfully for copying with the camera on a tripod. The application window supplies a remote shutter button, or you can simply use the space bar as the remote shutter release.
