The Buddy Bears are touring the world. At the moment, they are in Sydney.

Here is a link about them: Click this (http://www.united-buddy-bears-sydney.com/)

Here is a quick excerpt from the plinth that accompanied them:

"Standing 2m tall and weighing in at 50kg each, the United Buddy Bears are on a non-stop tour of the world. Each of the 124 Buddy Bears represents a United Nations member state and has been painted by an international artist in the spirit of their own country of origin."

Bring on the bears:

Cool. Looks like this was after the Cuban cigar was stolen.
(Did you notice the stump - pic 4 ?)
I got a pic very close to your #1.
My favourite was Indonesia's bear :

Hey, Dave

No, I didn't notice the stump :)

What time were you there? I was there from around 10:15 to midday - trying to find a "candid" pic for the POTN World Photo Day (http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=148240)

I've been photographing these for weeks! (Took me that long to get some pics I was happy with :) ) Found the backgrounds very frustrating.
I only have 3 pics where the Cigar was still there, here's one.

I didn't even know they were there. I wandered down into the Rocks this morning and, suddenly, there they were!

The backgrounds are an issue, I agree, but the sun was a problem, too - That last one of mine (Afghanistan, I believe) has a definite sunshine problem.

The buggers are everywhere, too. I found one over in the walking plaza opposite the beergarden - covered in kids it was, too.

The Bears look terrific - and the background problem mentioned is there to see -but it is Circular Quay after all....

Gotta say the Indonesian close shot has pop to spare. Good process there. If only all our shots were that rich in gamut or whatever its termed.

Thanks, Carzee

When are we going to catch you down in Sydney next?

I might be down soon at Paddys markets selling everything I own to buy a 5D...

I have been looking and looking this arvo at a 5D gallery and licking my lips at FF. Gotta write a letter to Santa right away.

mmm, yes - I am still 'getting' my 5D

Possibly in the next 2 to 3 weeks - but I have said that before. The first time I was ready to get it, my wife blew her knee apart and, while crutches were a cheaper option, the 5D money (and more) went to her doctors. The second time I managed to save the money for it, we had some family stuff that meant the kids got bailed out of their problems. This time I am quietly hopeful.

(Damn, did I just jinx myself?)

I likee these cheesy bears. Dogs in every city world wide will anticipate having a field day. Do they play that hypnotic Coke Cola 'Wanna teach the world to sing ...' tune as you wander amongst the bears?
