hi

Just bought this yesterday and very nice it is too.

Problem is my AsusP4PE motherboard doesn't seem to detect it (it's 6 x USB 2.0). I'm running Windows XP Home SP1 with all latest updates.

It's detected fine by my old P3 800 bx usb 1.0 motherboard so it's not a disaster cause I can alsways use that.

I tried installing the cd drivers AND downloaded the latest WIAs from Canon - the pc detects a device but doesn't recognise it as a camera. An "unknown device" is added to the USB section of Device Manager.

I'm currently waiting for a call back from Canon uk tech support.

Any ideas anyone ?

cheers

Have you tried updating your usb drivers yet? I would definately give it a go if you havent.

1. Turn on your camera in the Playback mode, connect it to your PC.
2. Go to Device Manager
3. Right click on the camera in the Device Manager, then click on Update Driver.

If this doesn't work, double-click on the camera, and find out the code number on the Properties window that explains why the camera is not working properly. Then post it on here as a reply. Good luck!

Solved it !

The wiring for my USB front ports was the wrong way round....now works fine. Narrowed down to this cause I tested the camera in a rear port (which worked).

Digital photography here I come !

Incidentally, is there really any need to install all the bundled software ?

I have an aversion to cluttering up my pc with unnecessary software....can I get by with the basic XP stuff ?

I've also got Irfan Viewer for image manipulation.

cheers

No need to install the software on XP, but it has some cool features like compressing and attaching images to a new email, stitching together the stitch-assist (panoramic) pics , printing multiple-image prints with frames and artwork, etc. I like it.
