This is the S.S. Keewatin, moored in Saugatuck, Michigan. At 346 feet long, it was built in 1907 in Govan, Scotland, and was used mainly on Lake Superior to carry Canadian Pacific railroad passengers across the big lake. It was in service from 1908 until 1965, and then arrived in Saugutuck where it has rested in peace as a museum since June of 1967. I have seen this ship countless times throughout my life, but this was the first time I've ever stopped and took some photos.

6. Chain link that's surrounding the property. Each link is about 6" in length.

7. And its own personal tugboat...although the big ship hasn't moved in nearly 40 years!

A nice sequence of images. The side view in the first image is my favorite. The ship is well-kept.

I like them all, John! In #1 the cloud shape conveniently mimics broadly the outline of a lifeboat ... :-)

Ha ha...good eye. Did you notice the seagull in the air in front of the boat? I didn't even notice until I posted the photo!

Thanks. Yes, that's one view I wouldn't want to see from a small boat! http://bestsmileys.com/scared/4.gifhttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/jimthias/Smilies/scared.gif

What an interesting vessel and I would love to see more...

I have a maritime forum which you may want to consider.. a veteran ships section with some members who would love these images...

Great photos very interesting, the old ship designers knew what looked pleasing to the eye.

#6 is by far my favorite, but #3 is a close second!

Great set of photos! I'll have to see if I can't check this out when I'm up north mid October!

Good shots. I really like #3 but I must say it has a little different feel now that you put the image of being in a small boat in my head!
