You may as well pm tim.
I'll be down in Palmerston North on the weekend of 8th/9th April for Ohakea Air Show with the AirForce... Don't think I'll travel as far as Wellington though.
If you did meet up, rendezvous is my mate, who lives in Palmy, but he may be interested in heading down for the 90min drive.

That's a long way to drive for such a short show. Should only take 10 minutes to view the whole air farce.

All 3 planes
Hey I've seen two in the air at once, the third had an engine missing. I think the rest are all cardboard to fool the Germans. Seriously, I'll be in Wn sometime over easter, may even take the camera.
tim
20th of March 2006 (Mon), 05:48
I'm in Welly and i'd be keen to meet more photographers. There's a guy in upper hutt who works in town, I forget his name tho - Wazza will remember.
I'm not very mobile, I live near Cuba St and don't own a car - I rent cars pretty often for weddings though. Actually I have one wedding that I might have in July that i'll walk to! It's about 3 blocks away.

email me sometime if you want :)

I'd be interested in a Welly meet depending on when it actually is. I'll be heading up to Auckland for a week around the end of April. Other than that i'm pretty mobile and live right in town (looks like not far from you Tim).

20th of March 2006 (Mon), 17:55
I'm off for easter but other than that I dunno
tim
20th of March 2006 (Mon), 20:00
How about we plan something for one evening, maybe a coffee in town then we can make a plan for a trip to shoot something some time. I have 4 weddings over the next 6 weeks so my weekends are pretty busy, but since i'm self employed i'm pretty flexible other times.

sounds good :)
tim
20th of March 2006 (Mon), 23:29
Lets shoot for about 2 weeks away, that gives time for other people to find us and come out. There's a WPS (Wellington Photographic Society) meeting next Monday, i'm a committee member (just joined the committee), let me know if you want to come along.

Excellent :) I'll PM my cell number to people so we can get hold of each other. Thursday afternoon i'll also post what i'll be wearing so we can find each other easily enough - i'll wear something that stands out!
Gona tell another mate of mine who visits POTN occasionally about this, he might come along too.

Well we had a succesful meet, Bruce, Cam, my friend Stu, and myself. We have a general plan to get together on a weekend in May to go take some interesting photos, (my opinion) hopefully somewhere relaxing and away from the city. Stay in touch guys!

it was great for me!! I just had a lens spack out on me at the wrong time and stu was kind enough to loan me one :)
I did feel a bit silly turning up witha borrowed 1ds witha 28-90 kit lens on it!!!!
Look foward to the next one......... Will have to have it at a bar next time!
tim
18th of April 2006 (Tue), 05:10
A drink next time sounds like a plan. Since a lot of us are poor photographers I may offer my house (I live very centrally) and people can BYO drinks. People can bring along a few photos too if they want.

Apolgies for the late suggestion but.....
The Dawn to Dusk vigil at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior starts at 0600. A Tri Service catafalque guard will undertake the vigil and change hourly.
Might be some good opportunities.

23rd of April 2006 (Sun), 23:33
I'm gonna be down at dawn service at the cenotaf from 5:30 if anyone else is keen, I'll probably head to the unknown warrior tomb latter in the day as I think it goes on untill 18:00
tim
24th of April 2006 (Mon), 02:51
As much as i'd like to meet up with your guys and take some photos, i'll be in bed until around 10am. Let's do another date as well as this! Post a link to photos if you post any :)
tongmaster
25th of April 2006 (Tue), 05:04
Cam and I were at the Cenotaph at 0530 ish. A very large crowd, excellent weather (best part of the day - before the rain started). I took quite a few photographs, none worth showing, but good experience at shooting in the dark.
Went from the Cenotaph to the National War Memorial - took a few equally uninspiring shots before the rain started. Went home for breakfast about 0700.
tim
27th of April 2006 (Thu), 07:23
Got a picture I took of Miss Hutt Valley in the dom post tomorrow, page 4 I think. Not a big deal for Cam but more of a big deal for me! Few more pics here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=163732).

From google... alternate aussie phrases.
"We are uncouth yokels without manners, come stare, point and laugh at us."
"Another shrimp on the barbie? We call them prawns you American dickhead..."
"Koalas? Yes, chlamidia. Kangaroos? Yes, pests and vermin. Emu's? Yes, explosive diahhreoa."
"Come see a big rock and lots of sand. No really, its really big, you can see the sand from the top."
"Yes, this is where the 4.1k of pot and the eccy tabs came from. Please obey our laws though."

Hey everyone. Would anyone be keen to have a Wellington meet-up like the Auckland POTN members do? How many of you live in Welly or would be keen to make the trip from elsewhere/meet somewhere in between?
tim
20th of September 2007 (Thu), 21:26
I'd be keen, so long as I wasn't busy. Around sunset is the time i'd like to take photos, so maybe a Sunday late afternoon/early evening? Depends what we want to shoot.

Nudge nudge wink wink, say no more.
Yes, another Wellington berk who may possibly own one of these rediculously expensive Canon plastic boxes. The shame.
tim
12th of January 2008 (Sat), 04:02
Dude, I own four of them!
I propose Thursday 24th Jan somewhere in central Wellington as a meeting date. Who can make it? Or perhaps Friday the 25th? Instead of a cafe like last time we could meet somewhere then go to the pub - that'd be easier on Thu I reckon.

Wife has confirmed that we are not booked to be elsewhere so what do we think about a bbq at my house on the Saturday?

Excellent, that's sorted then, if a few people can come. I can make it, thanks for the generous offer Bruce! I may bring my partner with me, I might not. If it's ok with Bruce I might also bring another couple along who are keen photographers and active in the Wellington Photographic Society - that be ok Bruce?
Can the others who said they could come Thursday come on Saturday?

That is fine. All are welcome to bring a partner. Our house is not so big tho that unlimited numbers will be able to sit down, especially if it turns out to be an inside bbq.
Should be able to cater for a dozen or two.

Yes. By a journalist covering the whole event on behalf of one team. And then we got to the bit where I was supposed to have access to the arena today and the plan fell to bits. Tomorrow remains to be recovered, not hopeful personally. Can't say I'm the most ammused... :?

Yes, you can't park on the wharf, so park in Wakefield St and walk through the wharf gates at the end of Taranaki St and it is on your left.
If you walk from the Civic Sq, go over the bridge, around the lagoon to the right and on to the main wharf and then right.

No worries Kelstar, the trip went well, Kaypony came along to stop Bruce and myself being too blokey and we had a lovely time. Plans are afoot to make it a relatively regular occurance, and of course you'd be more than welcome. :)

I'm down in Welly over the weekend (just Saturday-Sunday), but booked up with Zoo, Te Papa, etc visits most of the time. If anyone was interested in an early Sunday morning stroll along the waterfront or something though, I'd be keen ;)

That might work. How early? I would be interested but Dave doesn't do early.

Not sure of sunrise time etc, but I'm an early riser (up at 5am every day) - so any time is good for me :)

Friday 1.30 at Ataturk Memorial on the south coast might be worth a look too.

Mornings are attainable if only by extending the evening... :p
Is there an actual plan from amongst the suggestions? ;)

Bruce had said we're doing the sunrise on Sunday. Not sure what time yet, but meet outside Te Papa to say hi to Stelari and take a few snaps. :)

Friday - I am going to the dawn service at 0530, home for breakfast and then picking Dave up at 1000 and going to the National War Memorial at about 1030 to shoot the service at 1100.
Sunday - Te Papa at 0630 to see the sun (hopefully) come up over the harbour and waterfront. If the weather forecast is not good on Saturday night I might decline but will announce cancellation here if that suits.
Cell phone number is oh two one three eight seven seven eight five
Any better offers?

Either usually, but im somewhat compelled. My weekends consist of 10-14 hour sleeps and nothing before 12.

Well since i'm a full time wedding photographer unless it's a wedding day (usually Saturday) I get up when I like. I usually work midday until 2am, give or take, but that's variable by approximately 8 hours in either direction ;)

Sounds great for Sunday morning, so long as the weather behaves itself. I'm not sure I'll have net usage when I'm down there, so if plans change/get cancelled etc, could someone fire me a text? Oh two one 1156550
Otherwise will be great to meet you guys, 6.30 outside Te Papa.

Right, we're off to Welly, looking forward to tomorrow morning.
Apparently there is some What Now? (the tv show) live broadcast from outside Te Papa at 8am, so I imagine it'll get pretty crowded around there - hopefully not at 6.30 though :)

Right kids. NZshrimper is visiting Wellington from the 20-24th so we need to organise some form of a get together during this period. Ideas on when? Where? How?

Hmm, think I'm down in Welly for work on the 23rd, but probably just for the day. Travel should be sorted in the next couple of days, will see if I can't wrangle something.

Here's some suggestions of what we could do:
1.Daytime walk and photos around the botanical gardens/cable car
2.Mt. Vic walk during the day and photograph from top
3.Mt. Vic at night
4. A pub somewhere at night
5. South Coast beaches during the day (you never know we might see Orca's!)
6. Ferry to Somes (cant spell) Island and potter around there with cameras
7. Photograph Courtney place at night
8. Waterfront walk and photograph/ Gelato during the day/ at night
What does everyone prefer? Got any other suggestions?

I can't much be bothered taking photos, or to be more accurate, I can't be bothered processing them later. I'm all for #4. Alternately my place in Johnsonville is available, but I don't have a lot of indoor space.
