I'm very happy with this one but I need new eyes to judge it now. Thank you! :)

You may be shooting a while to top that, pure eye candy from corner to corner, I just wish I could shoot one like that someday.

Could you please give some details on the settings etc. that you used to capture this beutiful shot, I spent an hour trying to photograph a bees hive in a hollow log and all the pics were atrocious.

amazing bee is right! The ONLY thing I would fix is the flower....it is a little too bright and takes one's attention away from the very cool bee. You have raised the bar on bug pics!!!!

Took the shot handheld with my G3 set at f/4, 1/1000. I had it on continous setting also, that improved my chances of getting one just right. I'll let you in on a little secret! The flower was added in Photoshop (hard to see right?), AND I agree that it is too much and takes away from the bee. I am planning on doing another version with just the bee. I'll post it sometime soon.

regards
Martin.

VERY well added there. I kept looking at the image earlier thinking - it's good, but something isn't -quite- right there.... (but still good ;) )
Now I realise - the flower has very good depth of field, but the bee is not quite as sharp as the flower.
It never occured to me the flower had been added - impressive!

Ok guys (and girls!), here is another version with a more fitting flower, actually it is the actual flower the bee was buzzing around. Which do you prefer?

Thanks!
Martin.

The second is much better. The muted yellow in the bee is echoed in the flower.

I do love the bee, but even before the second version I was wondering about that little yellow sac under him? Is that a bit of the original flower? :)

Hi
Not sure what you mean about the 'little yellow sack'? If it's what I think you mean it is just a part of the bee, it's the pollen it has collected I think? Anyone?

thanks
Martin.

Yep, i think they are pollen from the flower.

LOVE the yellow flower version. All the elements come together perfectly in this shot.

martin, I have spent countless hours this summer trying to catch bees in flight. I have maybe 4-5 good shots out of 200, not exactly the attrition rate I had hoped for. Maybe part of the reason was they were all hand held. This bee seems to be(e) missing a hind set of legs. What happened? Usually, Bees in flight have their legs bent and facing the rear.
