We had the Fillmore Rail Festival over the weekend. I was out and about and came across Ian and his mom. She was nice enough to let me take a couple of pictures of him.

They are both very nice and technically good, well exposed and the background is nicely blurred. The extra background in the second one is not helping though. I would crop the second in tight like the first and use that because the kids expression is better. The only other trick might be to try a little fill flash next time to give catchlights in the eyes, but that risks making the pictures too harsh, could be worth an experiment?

This is being super-critical and nit-picky, but the left hand shot is slightly overexposed - note that the detail in the ice cream is blown out. You can also see a definite difference in exposure between the two shots.

Nonetheless, very interesting and "decisive moment" shots
