Can anyone give me their pros and cons of the Bogen 3001N tripod....also the Bogen 3262/484RC2 mini ball head...I am shooting with the 10D and my heaviest lens will be the 100-400mm....good setup?....thanks...

I've been using the 3001bpro since feb. of this year & has had no problems with it. It was recommended to me by one on my photo instructors. I picked the pro due to the snap locks on the legs, it holds up great in the wind and I carry it in my car daily. Using it with the 3030 QR head, very strong setup I puchased this knowing I was going to upgrade to the 10D or better by October of this year. I also carry a Bogen monopod 3006 with the 3229 head & that works well with lighter lenses.

I have the 3001pro as well,. if you are at all interested in Macro work,. you may wnat to consider the 3001 "pro" because I think the other 3001 versions do not have the very nice center pole at 90 degree angle feature.

I think any mini ball head wouldn't be best for a camera like the 10d with a heavy lens (100-400) on it. I'm not sure on the exact specifications of the bogen mini ball head, but i'd be cautious. I use a bogen 3001pro... it's perfect and not too terribly heavy. My head is a large velbon ball head wich locks like welded steel when tightened down, i never doubt it's ability to support my camera with heavy lenses. downside is it weighs nearly 16 oz on its own!

I have been using the Bogen 3262QR (quick release)head on both lightweight Bogen 3205S and heavy duty 3228W tripods for 5 years.

I use it with both digital and film bodies and frequently mount long lenses (80-200 f2.8, 400 f5.6) without issue. It has always been a rock solid piece of gear.

I do highly recommend the quick release version though. Buy at least 2 plates. I have one mounted on the camera body, and switch the second back and forth from the much used 80-200 f2.8 to the 400 f5.6 when needed.
