Now that I have a 10D for protraits of my grand children, I am wondering what printer I should buy. I visited Staples and the salesman suggested Canon 950i or a HP printer (Photoprinter) both in same price range.
I need your advice, what should I get?.
The Canon has 6 tanks and probably they will not empty all at once, the cartirages are about $15, while the HP has 3 tanks, and cost about $40 each.
I am wondering about the quality of the prints, and ofcourse about the price of the ink on the long run.
Thnak you guys for your help

I've done a lot of research on the same subject. The canon i950 printer is a far superior quality model to the equivalent models form the competition.
Buy the canon :D

I have the i950 and it is a great printer. I like the individual ink cartridges. You are right they don't all empty at the same time. I am finding that I spend less on ink than I used to with my HP printer.

I have my 950i now.
The assembly and instructions are somee what difficult, but when all 6 tanks of ink got installed, pictures seem to be stunning.

You should have looked at Epson as well, I have been down the path of the other makes and now it only Epson for me, if you have proboems with your new printer and I hope you don't, look at Epson.

lol,.. I have the i950 and am loving it,.. I laugh because I wen t with the canopn specifically to avaid Epson!

Every Epson I have ever been in contact with (and I mean contact with,.. not just owned personally!)

... has died in less than a year and given the owners nothing but greif.

There was no way I was willing to buy an Epson.

I have an Epson 900 that is 4 years old and sits in the back seat of my work vehicle, I live in south Florida where the temp gets into the mid 90's, and much hotter in the car.

This Epson has worked very well in the worst conditions you can put a printer in.

Other who have canon printers don't have as good of luck in the same conditions.

I know of another Epson, an 777 model that has been in the persons work vehicle for at least 6 years and it prints very well also.

I own a total of four Epson printers right now, 1-Epson 900, 1-Epson 900 photo, 1-Epson 925 photo and 1-Epson 2200 photo.

All work and print without a hitch.

I too love the Epson quality but am frustrated at missing colors and clogged nozzles when it's not used weekly. Because photography is a hobby like many here and not my job, the printer is used mainly on weekends or when I find time to run a batch. If the Espon sits for 2 weeks, I find you have to run a ton of ink through it in order to purge the nozzles and get proper prints again. Becuase of this, prints cost a bunch more $$$ than you expected and it can be time consuming getting it going again. I suppose I find the Epsons like an older Ferarri, great performance when their running but the downtime maintenance kills you in time & dollars.

I can second the opinions on Epson printers clogging. I have a 820 that is about a year old now and has not been used in over 6 months because of clogging.

I am thinking the Canon is the way for me to go also.

LOL... It's interesting that I've ALSO done this research and the HP came out better! And... many on this forum have done their own independent research and concluded the Epson models to be the best of the three.

Go figure!
