OK finally got a chance to sift through all the pics and post a few (ok 30-something...who's counting anyway), so heeeere we go!

Friday I got there just in time for the Star Mazda race, hung out with a friend (#46 Star Mazda) for the GT3 cup race (hence no pics of that), then went back out for the Speed GT race.

Friday photos were taken with a 1DmkII w/ 100-400 f/4-5.6L IS....and I didn't notice until later all the crap on the lens, so you can see the splotches in a lot of the pics, bleh. Saturday photos I switched to a 200 f/1.8L (with no splotches of crap on it, yayy). If that's confusing, well....yeah you can ask me about particular pics or whatever.

Settings-wise, basically 3 options:
--If the action is frozen, I was in Av with it wide open, iso set as low as possible while keeping the shutter speed over 1/1000, had to keep bumping it up as twilight fell.
--If there's motion blur and it's daytime, I was in Tv using anywhere from 100-250, iso 50, aperture whatever the camera decided.
--If it's really dark, I was in M with iso 800, f/1.8, shutter in the 80-200 range.

All the pics are unmodified, with the exception of cropping and resizing. If you'd like to see full size, holler and I'll make it happen.

Holy cow man.... you clobbered my network connection... you may want consider picking your favorite few and linking to the rest.

On the images, they are pretty interesting. I was lamenting not going down but then while watching the coverage I noticed it is one of the least photographer friendly tracks out there. I am looking forward to seeing and "not" hearing the diesel but it will have to wait until the Utah race... from everything I have read and seen is that it is an amazing machine. I would love to see some of these once you have had the chance to do a little ps touch up on them. Cheers.

Sebring's plenty photo-friendly, imo...some places it would help to be 12 feet tall, but it's a heckuva lot better than Daytona's debris fences everywhere.

As for not hearing the diesel....yeah for the head-on shot coming through 3 & 4, I literally had to hang around 3 laps longer than I wanted to because the Audi kept sneaking past me. You get into the habit of relaxing and chatting until you hear a car coming...by the time you hear the Audi, it's too late to get the camera up for a shot.

and uh....PS is not one of my skills at this point. Need to get it, have been lazy. I tinker with the colors/light in MS photo editor, that's about it.

Hey man, you've got some excellent shots there. Unfortunately I had to leave just as the sun was going down and didn't get any shots from after sundown this year. I'd also agree with you that Sebring is actually very photo-friendly if you don't mind doing some footwork. Over in the north paddock there are some phenomenal places with unobstructed views!

I posted a few of my pics as well as a link to the full gallery.

Very nice shots, some appear to hive high fuzz from a high ISO?

Probably, though I tried to keep iso as low as possible for that reason. Some of the twilight/night pics might be fuzzy due to some overzealous sharpening/brightening by the photog :o. A lot of the Friday pics are soft because the 100-400's slow focus couldn't keep up on the head-on shots (and I didn't think to account for this by using MF or focusing on the ground in front of the car).

Once in a while someone will ask me what I do with the pics I take. I hate these moments because my answer is usually "uhhhhh.......I dunno, show 'em to people, stuff like that......". I always come away from such an encounter feeling like my efforts are pointless and wasted if I don't hustle and sell the pics to make it a profitable venture.

Then someone compliments my pics, I beam with pride and satisfaction, and I feel renewed love for this moneypit we call amatuer photography .
