I recently purchased a S400, and was wondering if others have found the optimal resolution & compression settings that seem to work the best and produce the best pictures, without taking up large amounts of space on the compactflash?

I was considering using L/F or M/SF. Any suggestions?

afraid i always use max setting apogor.
However if i wanted to save space, i'd probably knock the res down before than compression, and be more particular about framing my subject better.

Do your own testing, but I found that Super Fine and Fine to have almost similar results. Super Fine was better, but only marginally so. Resolution seemed a bit more dramatic of a change.

Put your camera on a table or tripod and aim at the same subject. Take sample shots in all the different sizes and compressions you want to check.

Down load them to the computer and inspect them. Match this to how many pictures the manual says you can fit on your card per the size and compression you pick.

Then make your choice.

My choice? Maximum resolution, super fine compression, and a bigger card.
