Hey everyone, just wanted to get a few ideas from some of you.
A lady has contacted me thinking about letting me shoot for her wedding, my husband thinks I should charge her no less than $100 but I am thinking the experiance and a porfolio will be enough for me, what do you guys think?
Also what is the best way to print out photos? Walmart, getting them done online *if so what company* any info would be well appriciated! ;)

Have you done a wedding before?? If not I would not go in as the main photog- even when you've done 100's they are stressful- you don't get a second chance. $100.00 is ripping yourself off- but she's getting a hell of a deal. I send all my dig files to a qualified lab- you will need to test a few labs. I have found their is ALOT of difference in how they print. I have had good luck with burrell pro labs and candid2000.

I did this to get started. However I had them sign a contract that stated if the images don't turn out. It is not my fault. I would not charge, for the shoot but for the prints you will be giving them. This way they realize you are not a pro and they should not expect pro quaility. Now I am no saying that you can produce pro qualitity images it just covers you butt. All wedding photographers had to start some where. If they are fine with have a chance that not all images will turn out the go for it. Try posting this in the Wedding fourm. you will get more hits there.

Thanks you guys. I have not shot at a wedding before however I feel Im up for it. Also I asked her if it would be okay to bring in a friend of mine so we both get shots and make up for what each of us missed. Also where could I go to get a photo done on canvas? like 16 x 20 so? The unfortunate thing about this is after I got to talking to her and asked her the date of the wedding *June 11th* I remembered Im due to have my 2nd baby June 03 and it might not work, so Im thinking of just telling her sorry as bad as I hate it! Thanks again;)

First... Congratulations on the impending birth of your second child. If you want the experience doing a wedding, but you're not sure you can make it (understandably), you could tell her you will have to pass, but would like the opportunity to shoot the wedding alongside which ever photographer she picks as long as you don't get in the way. That way, if you can't make it, no harm... If you do - you get the experience. She can always buy the prints from you if she likes them.
Good luck with both..

My first wedding was for my cousin, i charged them $350 to cover ALL my costs and that meant i think i had about $50 for my time and i used that to purchase reprints of all the photo's, this is also in the film days so much more expensive. I have done a few for friends etc. and charged $350 as a standard, but have now got a bit of experience up to charge a bit more for my times, especially since all the PPing is so time consuming. But for a first time shoot id stick to nothing over $300 to cover all your costs with a bit extra to get prints for your portfolio. Experience is priceless!!!

Oh your due soon....hmm yeh that's a little bit too touchy, id say no because you never know when your pregnant when the baby might pop out to say HI!!!! I think its best if you do say no to it, and if the offer comes up again you have some idea's on where to go at least.
Canvas prints do a search on google, and as for labs they make a difference, A HUGE DIFFRERENCE so just send a few photo's around and see how good the prints come out and then choose the best. I use beau photo's online and they are great! I found mr gradget online too because its hard for me being in a country town - the processing machine here SUCKS!

^^^ what he said ^^^
But we all have to start somewhere. For my first wedding I told them if I forget to take the lens cap off and don't get any photos, bad luck, you get what you pay for (free, in their case).

i agree with tim, but to clarify I am sighing at your stubborn response.. you asked a freaking question. now take the responses as food for thought!!!
I serriously don't understand why people even ask for input if all they are going to do is argue or disagree!

im sorry my frustration was directed at you, but fueled by the sensitive nature of your question and the fact that you responded like the other 9million people i have seen ask it..
trust me.. I hear horror stories about photogs like you (not you in specific but that fit tht bill) people seem to be a lot more passionate about their images after they find out they have none

Better safe then sorry, just tell your friend that you are due on the 3rd. That is out of your hands and in the big guys now.
