View Full Version : D30 newby : no live picture on LCD screen + WDM Dr

Merci d'avance

I get a Canon D30 but there was no help-documentation with it and it is the first time I try to work with such a camera (and perhaps am I not very clever !!!)
SO, I don't understand what I have to do to see on the LCD screen the live picture : could YOU help me, or could you say to me where I have to look ?
In fact I would like to developp my own application to shoot pictures from a computer (as for an example with RemoteCapture application, where images can be shot by clicking the [Release] button in the main window.) Without the live picture on the LCD screen that doesnt makes no sence. The second question is : do i need & and does it exist a WDM driver for D30 to be able to developp my application with DirectSow ???

Thanxxx

I suggest that you get the user's manual for your D30 and read it.

There is no "live" image preview. It will display the image after the shot.

Did you purchase one of these and think that it would preview the image in advance of the shot?

Jean,

The D30 is a single-lens reflex camera, which means that the mirror that diverts the image through the lens to the viewfinder is in front of the imaging chip until the shutter button is pressed.

Even if you set the mirror to the locked up position, the shutter curtain will be in the way - until you press the shutter button.

And, even if you set the camera to bulb so the shutter stays open, the chip is not the right kind to give a continuous "video" feed.

You might like to have a look at this program http://www.breezesys.com/D30Remote/index.htm to see whether it will suit your requirements.

There is a Canon SDK - software development kit - available, but I believe distribution is controlled and varies by country, so I'd search your the Canon site for the country where you live.

Regards,
