i just for a canon eos 350 xt..alot of fun but i got some simple maybe stupid
questions but here goes
1/is the only cable release you can use a electronic one?
2/presently i am shooting raw and putting the photos in i-photo and exporting ones i want to work on as tiff s then working on them in photoshop cs....1/cs says they are 8 bit files does the xt not do 16?
or does the tiff somehow change that?
2/i have been trying to put into cs the correct plug in for the
camera to no avail
3/ i thought maybe an easy solution would to just get
adobe elements 3 or 4 and use that for the raw
1/do either of those programs support the camera?
2/and then if i wanted to do further work in cs on the
image i would assume it would have to be a tiff to move the image to cs...true or not?
thanks i would appreciate any input on this,

Welcome to the forum first of all. :D

I don't have 350D but i use PSCS (not CS2 though)

1. I think the answer is "Yes" but have never tried mechanical cable release.
2. PSCS supports 16-bit tiff.
3. I don't think the ACR plugin for PSCS supports 350D RAW without going thru the DNG route. On the other hand, the ACR Plugin for PSCS2 should support RAW from 350D.
4. You should be able to convert the RAW to TIFF and then open it in PSCS.

For RAW converter, check out the "RawShooter Essential" from Pixmentec, or the Digital Photo Professtional from Canon.

Hope that helps.

i can open the tiff from i photo in cs, no problem...when i look at mode it is 8 channel
not 16 bits/channel....and i am operating then in a tiff and not raw....which works ok for me now but ideally i would be working in cs as raw and then saving as tiff? am i confusing?

The problem is that iPhoto is converting the RAW file to TIFF in 8-bit mode. If you want your converted TIFF file to be in 16-bit mode, you will need to use the converter that came with your camera (DPP or ImageBrowser) or get a 3rd party converter.

Just "Export" your RAW image from iPhoto as "Original" and then save it where ever you want it, it will save as a RAW image.

And how will this help the OP? He's trying to convert it from RAW so that he can work on it in PSCS.
