hi everybody, i am new here and have a simple observation to share, i might be wrong and would also like to hear your experiences.
i have been shooting with 10d for some 6 months now, mostly with sigma 24-70 2.8 but have tried other canon lenses (L and non L) as well. there's one big disadvantage: you can't really make good panorama (landscapes, vistas) shots. no matter the glass, i think the chip doesn't see all the light coming in. i did an extensive test on various locations, with different weather and light conditions: nikon f5, hasselblad xpan, hasselblad h1 and canon 10d (all with excellent or at least very decent glass). the digital shots were funny comparing with negatives/diases when it comes down to fine detail and sharp detail even at the far horizont with big depth of field which i miss most.
othervise in the studio, on the street and with closer subjects/objects i am very pleased with the results.

Hi
Nice web site, and nice photos (nice girls too). I am not a pro or even an advanced amateur, but i did notice that on landscape photo the 10D lacks of sharpness in the far horizons, despite the use of a tripod, hyperfocale etc. However i only have a 24-85 lens which might not be the best around but i am happy that someone mention this.

Hi zWWWer,
how large did you print out the shots?
I remember reading that if you scan a 35 mm slide, you can get a resolution of something between 12 and 35 MP (depending on film and scanner used).
If the Hasselblads are medium format, the resolution will be even higher.
Naturally, that's a lot more information than the 6 MP you get from the 10D's chip.
Regards,
Andy

thanks petiot.
andy hi, prints weren't big (20x30cm), i was really disappointend. i could clearly see the railways tracks, railway lighting and even little stones between the tracks on the negative even at the far horizont in all their rich texture and tone variations, whereas digital reproduction proved to be more like a puddle of slowly dripping mud. :)
not complaining of course, 10d is a fine camera, i was just curious where does the 6mp chip shows its reproduction limitations, drawbacks and wondering if you guys notice the same.

I think it is all in the know-how. I have seen some beautiful panoramas from the 10D. Here are just a couple of links:

I got these just from doing a quick search on DPReview. There were a lot more. I guess it is just in the knowing the right settings and practice. I haven't had a chance myself to try any pano's with my 10D yet but hopefully will soon.
