Well,. this is it,. my first ever thread in the "pro" section :cool: :cool:

I am putting together a 4"'X6" or 5"X7" kiosk card to promote my first ever gallery exhibition... it will alos be printed in a local periodical.

Lot's of steps involved,...

... but the first hurdle is which single image to use for the basis of the logo card.

Pertinant and Background info:
The Theme of the exhibit in short is "nature around us" (ie: in the cities)
and images will feature my local residents such as Big Blue (a GBH) and Frey and Odin (a pair of Red Tails) etc..
Also some of my IR landscapes will fit in there.

The gallery is tiny,.. i'll be able to hang between 20 and 24 imgages.

So.. here are a few images I have considered off the bat, but am no means restricted to,. including simply re-working the one I use on my website,..

But if interested,. you could also look at my gallery and suggest something else.

Of course most of these images are crops so in some cases the original would leave me more room for text etc..

My website of course for anyone with other suggestions;

thanks :)

All images are nice. I also looked at your gallary.
And I found Zeeny's Cormarant image good match to your subject.
why dont you add that image here, and have a poll :)

I don't know. The second one is as close to perfect as I can imagine. But 4 is very interesting.

I like the photo you are using for your avatar..... it is amazing.

BTW, can I please have your autograph now, before you become really famous (other than here on POTN) ? :)

Well lookign around here they use caricatures. Of the shooter. The subjects of your photography may change, but your mug may become your trademark.

I dunno. WWAAD... What Would Ansel Adams Do?

I suggest you use a simple graphic image that represents your main body of work - keep it simple so that it's memorable and easier to include on all your potential branded materials (letterhead, website, business cards, frames etc) and supplement it with text that gives the reader the info they need.

Bear in mind your market audience - if your work is mainly nature, then probably counter productive to have a grungy/ultra-modern design as (my bias perhaps) I doubt that your audience will be into that look...

I really like the IR pic you've posted, and if IR was the biggest part of your portfolio would strongly suggest you use a panaromic crop of it...however if your main subject matter is nature, then it could confuse your audience.

Anyway, thats just my opinion. The key thing is, congrats on getting the display!

No help here, Jake. For a kiosk card, I like the 1st one you posted as it seems to say it all & doesn't need any other text. The gallery will show the rest of your work?
(Good luck on picking "between 20 and 24 images"!) ;)

Yeah.. that's been interesting so far!

I've got a few printed allready.. and there are others that I know I'll use.
But as I get closer to that number I know it's going to get very hard to decide!

Thanks Mills,. and Maureen,. I've been thinking of both of these,. (well obviously I posted thenm here :) ) .. my concern with the Waxwing pic is where/how the text will fit in.. I'm going to have to go back to the RAW file and see if I can use a larger crop.. but heck it looks like a magazine cover,. so I just need to figure out how to drop text on it without wrecking the image just the way they do with magazines :)

Whereas the "golden Pond" image has all kinds of room for text....

I think I'll have to try soem of these out rather than try and decide before hand.. see what they look like with text in them...

Alistair,
thanks for your input,.

Your right,. I need to seperate the idea of a logo from this "kiosk card" idea.. they are two seperate things...

For now I'm focusing on the kiosk card image and text.. logo may or not happen in time for the gallery show.

Her's what I ended up with for the "invitation/kiosk card"
It prints up @ 4"X6" rather nicely.

A tip for all you would be graphic artists;
One thing I have learned,. text formatting that looks "good" on a monitor usually does not look right in print and vice versa.

Allway allways do several test prints of any thing like this with text and go back to the drawing board. With the semi-final result here (I may still tweek it) ..frankly I find the text far to busy on my 24" screen,. but on a 4X6" card it looks fine. The earlier versions the text looked great on screen,. but was mush too small and thin for the printed cards.

That looks good, Jake!

Hmmm. imho the word "exhibition" or "invitation" should dominate and grab my attention. Maybe insert exhibition where the yellow "jake h" tag is at the top. The top name tage is redundant because of the lower tag dot com.

O-kay..

None of you wingnuts found the spelling mistake! Jeez I 'm counting on you guys,. you can't expect me to find these things!

So ... took some advice and came up with these;

One is the invite.. the other is the "logo"

I like the last one with less text on the picture. Beautiful shots, CDS.
