Canon SD600 Vs SD550

Hey im new here

I am looking to buy a digital camera, i am doing some reach but still cant decide.

I went to Circuit City 2 times today and, i have narrowed it down to the Canon SD600 and the SD550,

I know that the 550 has more mp's but to my understanding it is not noticible untill you print larger sized photos.

What other features does the sd550 have that the 600 doesn't

I like that the 600 is thinner but i am not getting a camera that only looks good.

I plan to use it on vacation's and occasional photography at parties.... I would also like to be able to take nice pictures.

What do you guys reccomend for me.
Please let me know as i am leaving next week and want to buy it soon.

Hi there! I am in the same boat... I have a digital Rebel 6.3 MP and love it, but am looking for a compact for the many times when I don't feel like lugging the SLR. I like the 7MPon the sd550, but am interested in the ISO800 on the sd600... guess its just a matter of prioritizing, but so hard!!! My main hangup with the sd600 is that I wonder how well the ISO800 really works, if its even worth it.

One thing that I don't love about the sd600, now that I am getting picky, is that the battery and memory card compartment door is really flimsy feeling. Seems like it could break off any time...

Anyways, let me know if you made a desicion- I'd love to hear what you end up with and why!

Changes going from SD550 to SD600

-Smaller picture resolution (Not much. Loss of ~200 pixel length and width)
-Slower max shutter speed (From 1/2000th to 1/1500th of a sec)
-Decrease in sensor size from 1/1.8" to 1/2.5"

+/- Down one megapixel

+Up in ISO sentivity. (+/-Low End: 50 to 80, + High End: 400 to 800)
+Slight shift in lens coverage to wide end. (37-111mm to 35-105mm)
+Higher resolution LCD screen (115K to 173K pixels)

Make sure you buy a nicely paded case as the LCD's are fragile. I cracked mine when it was in a coat pocket and it took about 3 weeks to repair + $150.

Hope that helps... I think the major difference is the ISO sensitivity on the high end. Low end doesn't make that much of a difference in the bright light.

I own an SD550. Haven't tried the SD600. Make sure you get a tripod if you're going to shoot at lower light situations.
