Exif Reader Help

OK, I installed the exif reader for IE and Firefox. My question is this, how do I save my photos in PS and have all the exif data show up on my posted photo? I noticed some photos that people post I can right click and get all the exif data and on some photos nothing shows up.

On my photos, only partial info shows up and nothing about my camera settings shows up. Do I need to save them a special way to have the exif data show up in the reader?

usually, if you use Save As to Web on photoshop, it strips the photo of all the Exif data.. if you want to retain the exif data, you should use the regular Save As function..

haha.. i use iExif for firefox, its pretty fun and handy, if i say so myself..

I use Ipanda in Firefox too.

Cropping out to make a new file can kill off camera exif too.

I do use "Save as" and not "Save for web". I guess it is because I am cropping?

Bingo. There may be a way of copying & pasting the exif separately. Anyone got a hint?

Try this, as I crop as well. From another thread and someone else.

If you want to "Save As Web" but preserve the EXIF, convert to sRGB, then to 8 bit, then push the button to Edit in ImageReady. After all, "Save As Web" is really just a cut down version of ImageReady.

Selecting 2-Up probably gives you the best display for optimising your picture. In the Optimize window, make sure JPEG is selected, then expand Options. Check or uncheck "Preserve ICC Profile" (I suggest checking it for photos), then make sure Add Metadata is checked, and push the Settings... button. In the Settings, make sure "Add Exif metadata" is checked. You can then either use "Optimize to File Size..." on the menu in that window, or set a quality using the slider.

Finally, use File -> Save Optimized As..., saving Images Only, and making sure the settings that you set Exif on are set (if you didn't save the settings, they'll probably be called Custom). It appears that the size of the Exif data is taken into account when the size is displayed (or you Optimize to File Size).


It's not ideal - it would be better if "Save For Web" had the option to preserve EXIF, but it's easy enough when you know how. Hopefully Adobe will listen to this and make this feature, which is already in ImageReady, available in Photoshop CS3. I'd also like an option in "Save For Web" (and, indeed, in ImageReady) to save in sRGB, rather than having to remember to convert to sRGB first.

Unfortunately, if you save settings in ImageReady that preserve EXIF, then use those settings in "Save For Web" in Photoshop, you lose EXIF. You have to use ImageReady to preserve EXIF.

This is a heavy crop used for the super macro guessing game. Also if you search for my shots you can see others that I have done this with.

It works great. In fact I used it on this pic.I'd convert to sRGB before sending to ImageReady - most web browsers aren't colour managed.

Both the EXIF and the embedded Adobe RGB profile are intact, though. :D
