I am sure that many of you have come across this question and I know that I am supposed to look for the answer before posting a question, but I have looked and not found what I am looking for. I am tired of messing around with Zoombrowser and want something more powerfull but simple. What is the best photo storage program available, and what is the best way to manage all these pics that Zoombrowser can't seem to handle. Thanks for your time.

Look at Extensis Portfolio 6 at http://extensis.com/. I have Portfolio 5 that I got with Digital Camera Magazine and I like it quite a lot. I think Portfolio 6 is probably a big step up and I would buy it if I really was looking for something to manage my photos with. It appears to have raw support for several manufacturers.

For me it's ACDSee 5.0 it's amazingly easy to use.
Has a database feature, show's RAW's and has batch tools like : convert, resize, rename etc.

i am currently trying portfolio. it seems complicated, comared to iphoto, but very powerful. one question i have is how to back-up the files on cd or dvd. can it be done within portfolio? by the way, the raw plug-in works great with the 10D.

Well, since you said Iphoto I'm guessing you are using a mac.
Here is a tip for burning a cd/dvd with Portfolio.

1. Insert a blank CD/DVD. Name it however you want.
2. Open your Portfolio catalog. Go to Gallery>Collect.
Select your CD/DVD as the Destination to collect the files to.
Do the same thing if you want to include a catalog on the CD/DVD.
Check the "Include Browser" button you'd like to copy a the Portfolio browser to the media as well.
After the Collect process is done. Quit Portfolio and select Burn from the File menu in the Finder.

Hope that helps. I'm tired and might be mixing things up a bit... but i know the program pretty darn good. :)

I'm with Frank on this one - ACDSee 5 is a superb tool for storage/cataloguing with all the extra tools and activities thrown in - get a demo version from www.acdsystems.com.

Yes for viewing, but not conversion: there's a free plug-in that must be downloaded and installed. It's worked fine with several thousand D30 and now 10D files. I don't know the score for 1D or 1Ds images.

Tried to download the plugin, but due to some error on the website the file was not available.
I sent an e-mail to webmaster.

Pekka,

If you don't have a quick response from them, let me know and I can e-mail the file to you. It's just over 2mb.

Thank's Roger, I'll let you know.
Not really need the software because I use iMatch but would be interesting to compare them.

Just for information the path to the missing RAW-plugin file has been fixed.
