I was contacted today by a representative of a Swiss games company, who is interested in acquiring rights to publish one of my photos for use in a geography card game about Switzerland (it's This Image) (http://www.jordansteele.com/images/outdoors/schilthorn.jpg). Anyway, I have absolutely no idea what a good rate for licensing the photo would be. I would like to have a reasonable and fair idea of pricing to request before I call her back.
So, what do you think is a fair price for licensing my photo to be produced with this card game in the following circumstances:
1) Just the photo on one card per set.
2) Photo on one card per set, plus photo used on back of packaging to show what types of cards are inside.
3) Photo on one card per set, with photo used as the front photo of the packaging.
I obviously don't know if they are considering anything like 2 or 3, and I think it's doubtful, but if for some reason they DO want to use that picture on the packaging, I don't want to get caught flat footed.
I have never sold a photo for licensing like this in a press run or print run like this, just prints to friends, so I have no idea about this. I'd like to be able to negotiate intelligently without either requesting some rediculously high price, or getting taken with a very low price.
Thanks!
