I got my new LensMate adapter for the G2 yesterday, and I've got to tell you, it's a great product. The champagne color matches almost exactly. The aluminum is heavy gauge and has nice internal blackening. It has 49mm external threads for filters.

Any downside? The nice OEM Canon lens cap doesn't work, but any generic 49mm cap will.

Highly recommended, and a deal at $22. Easy to pay via PayPal too.

Congragulations.

For a long time (first with G1, now with G2) I used a 49mm plastic snap-on lens cap with the lensmate. Worked OK, but mine occasionally snapped off all by itself in my camera bag. I finally bought a metal screw-on lens cap from B&H Photo. It's black with some decorative trim. It doesn't match the G2 lensmate, but most filters are black anyway.

So now I can rest assured that the lens cap won't just pop off.

New G2 owner... may I ask... is the LensMate intended to stay on the camera at all times? I assume it doesn't interfere with the zoom, wide or telephoto?

Thanks

Tom

The lensmate stays on the camera if you want it to. If you leave it on, you'll need to provide a lens cap. Also, if you leave it on, the camera takes up more space in a bag, as the lens retracts inside the LensMate tube.

leave it on all the time...it makes holding the camera more SLR-like as you can place your left hand under it to support it, and it protects the lens tube when it is extended. a good UV filter in the front also protects the front of the lens too and well as cutting out excess glare.

The only problem I've had is some vignetting at no zoom. It is very slight and appears as a shading. Anyone else notice this?

Look here for a comparison of two sky images with and without the Lensmate I shot 5 minutes ago. There is NO difference, thus no vignetting.

There was NO filter on the LensMate for this shot
