Excellent shots. Love the colors. You have a good control over the dof's. Well done!

Both of them are great, I love clean colors on the 2nd.
How do you get that close without spooking them? What was your working distance?

Thanks racketman, been having fun at the rose garden in the park, heaps of different colour roses, but finding that the hovers are mainly going to the white and yellow roses.

Thanks jbradc, the working distance is about 70mm - 180mm (that with using the 105mm macro lens and 68mm of ET's), to get close to them i just move in slow, or watch what the insects are doing and try to seen a pattern in what the are doing and wait for them to land where i'm standing/laying.

The only problem is that I have an illogical hate of hoverflys... :D

(found a dead hoverfly in my rice when I was 5 or 6...and now I really don't like them)

nice pics all the same :D
