I was out taking pix with my Cannon G6 when i saw a train coming and couldn't resist taking up 3 parking spots and standing in the middle of the road to get these pix. I love how the background is blurred but my car is still sharp yet soft, and i think my lights being on helps separate the background from the focal object. let me know what you think of these

Good try but the car is the wrong color in that setting. If it was red or yellow or even white... but the darker colour increases the gloomy twilight and sinks in to the darkish scene, you need a focal point other than lights/blinkers/indicators/ whatever you call them there.

is it really that big of an issue, you can still see the entire car, it doesn't disapear any where in the pic, maybe just a lil at the bottom of the bumpers.

The focal point in both pics is the lights. Maybe you should've used a fill flash and stood closer in the first one. There's a lot of gravel there.. and a closer shot would still show the train.

yeah that would've helped but i was more concerned with just getting a pic off before the train left o well i am still happy with the turn out

Great pics are made by improving the details - you got a test shot here, if you like the idea go back and do take 2. The trains will be there again. Maybe wait for more sunset in the sky and have a buddy car point at the front of your car using his headlights to light up your car. And get the front of the train as it goes by. Engineer may have his light on too.

edited the pic a lil it looks so much better in Photoshop, alot brighter. also made one in B&W just because

and carzee, thanks for the help i'll have to try it again some other time. it is hard though cause there is a road right there so in order to get any extra lighting i would need to block the road

The lighting is poor. Dark car with a most dark background behind it.
