Hello!
I was in contact with canon about using my Ixus 400 as a webcamera. This is their reply:

"
Canon does not advise you using your camera as a web-cam. This is for the simple reason that the camera is not designed to take rapid photos over a long period of time (the resulting actions would overheat the camera).

The Remote Capture software included on the Canon Digital Camera Solutions Disk provides the capability to take and store images remotely using your computer via the USB connection. This is not the same as providing real-time, live video feed to a web server.

The picture resolution capabilities of your Canon digital camera far exceed the requirements of even a high-quality webcam.

We recommend you to get a built-for-the-purpose webcam if you wish to send live video over the web. They are quite inexpensive, very easy to install and set up, and are designed for continuous use.
"

So, now we can put an end to this discussion...maybe?

Cheers for posting this Carl, Althogh I do have a webcam, the images from it aren't the best, but with the info you've just given me, it looks as if I could ue the ixus400 to take regular pics over a longer period of time... say every 5-10 mins woud suffice.
My only problem now is the battery life ;-)
cheers again
